Terminator Genisys
I dunno... It's looking kinda 'meh' maybe?
They continue to **** with the timeline which is confusing. So what I see in this trailer is this is the second time they send the same dude back to keep Sarah Connor alive? Wait, wut? Apparently terminators age as well? Weird but whatever. Here's the trailer. I didn't see it posted anywhere but the search function is fubar. http://youtu.be/62E4FJTwSuc |

The terminator is covered with actual tissue, right? So, it's easy to assume it would age like all tissue.

1st or 2nd day see for me, and it's rare that I will see something at all much less that quick. My son will love this.

Looks like future machines figured out nanotech, which is pretty sweet. For those confused as to why Arnie is old, human tissues cells cover the terminators, which means they age just like human tissues cells normally would.
As for the jumbled timeline, I think it is somewhat clear that several trips have been taken at different points in time. I am positive the old Arnold goes back to 1984 and kills the young Arnold before it all gets started (or at least that is my hunch from the 3 second fight scene between them). If John has been infected with nano machines, then they have to go back in his timeline prior to that moment, they also have to make sure Reese and Sarah still ****... think Back to the Future with homicide thrown in. The paradox being, if you stop the machines, then Sarah and Reese never meet, and John is never born to stop the machines. I am quite curious how they are going to solve that. Clearly the methods taken in T2 did not work to stop the future threat. This could be a great movie if they can pull off multiple time lines coherently.

It's all explainable if you subscribe to the theory of time travel that each trip back creates a new alternate timeline (which is different from Back to the Future).
For example, the original Terminator had to be no sooner than the 3rd time John Connor was born. In the original timeline, Sarah Connor meets someone from her present day, who sires John Connor, who becomes the leader of the human resistance. Once they smash the defense grid of Skynet, they discover that Skynet had sent a Terminator back. Thus, John elects to send Kyle Reese back, unaware that Kyle would alter the past. Doing this creates an alternate timeline. Kyle saves Sarah, they conceive John, and he dies. This is the second iteration of the 1984 timeline. Now, Sarah is aware of who her son will be, so she begins recording messages to him and she tells John about Kyle, ensuring that he will send Kyle back. This is also why John gives Kyle Sarah's picture taken outside of the gas station in Mexico before the storm comes in at the end of the first film. That is the third iteration of the timeline, and as far as we know, every one thereafter. |

How does the TV series and 3rd movie factor into all of this?
So confusing...

In timeline A John is born and sends Reece (sp?) back to the past...in timeline B. In timeline A Reece wasn't John's father but now is in B. Also you could think of time not as a line but a loop. Think of time travel bending a "time line" like a hot wheels race car track...

I dont think anyone has ever defined "canon" in the Terminator universe? There is no "One Chief" running these since Cameron left.

To some people, canon ends after T2. In T4, T3 was also canonical. We'll see which one the filmmakers subscribe to. |
