The Wheels through Time Museum in Maggie Valley is pretty cool. It is near the Tail. http://www.wheelsthroughtime.com/

we stayed on the north side of the mountains and rode around the whole mountain....including riding the tail of the dragon. I've been looking and looking....and I can't find it....but one of my big regerts about that trip is that there is a road on the northeast side of the mountains that is supposed to be one of the most scenic drives in the US. we didn't have time to hit it. wish I could find it or knew what it was....

This was my master plan when I was out there last year, even though we cut it short... then did the Blue Ridge Parkway the next day. The drive north of Cherokee should be pretty fun, but for whatever reason there was a decent amount of traffic on it at the time. Tail of the Dragon was a lot of fun, but would have been even better on a bike.... Cherohala Skyway was okay, I wouldn't do it again. Blue Ridge Parkway wasn't as fun of a drive overall, but was nice and scenic.
Didn't do a lot outside of driving, but did go to Grandfather Mountain, which has a suspension bridge you can walk across at the top.

This sign cracked me up. Didn't see it on the Tail but rather the Blue Ridge Pkwy IIRC.

The vast majority of the Tail of the Dragon is in Tennessee, rather than NC.

never been, but it's on my list of places to go. we kicked around the idea of going there instead of Sturgis. about the same distance from KC for us if I recall, and 10X as fun.

Well, we just arrived at our cabin. It's raining here of course. I guess the Mrs and I will have to find something to do.

People usually mean Deals Gap. The Mecca of motorcycling roads. Located in North Carolina because it has 318 turns in 11 miles of beautiful country.
Do a search on "killboy" and you will get a lot of pictures of crashes from Deal's Gap. |
