My New Post-Alex Smith Mock Draft

My assumption is re-signing both Bowe and Albert, along with Colquitt, but letting Dorsey walk.

Round 1, Pick 1: Cordarelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee
An unconventional pick here, but one that fits the need to acquire playmakers at 1.1. Patterson didn't have much D1 experience, but what we saw was impressive. I've heard him compared to D. Thomas in Denver, which makes him worth a #1 to me.

Round 3, Pick 1: Jon Bostic, ILB, Florida

A bit of a reach here? Maybe. But we would have the most bad-ass LB corps in the NFL. Hali, Houston, DJ, and this guy? Athletic, fast, hard-hitting, and aggressive. DaKCMan and others sold me on this one.

Round 3, Comp. Pick: Devin Taylor, DE, South Carolina
I've mocked him here before...he's got the size to take up blockers in our 3-4 scheme. With Dorsey and possibly Jackson gone, it's time to build the line in the middle of the draft.

Round 4, Pick 2: Marcus Lattimore, RB, South Carolina
Maybe this pick and Taylor are switched, but we're going with a full-on Cock Mock here. Lattimore has amazing upside and could be a compelling playmaker with Charles upon his recovery.

Round 5, Pick 1: Denard Robinson, WR, Michigan
Yeah, this guy's crazy raw. I don't even know if he can catch. But this guy is an athlete and could possibly play CB, run back kicks, and run the read-option as a QB. I think he has a ton of upside and is worth a 5th round pick.

Round 6, Pick 2: David Renfree, QB, Duke
This is a name I hear a lot about in terms of a deep sleeper at QB. At worst, he gets cut in TC. At best, he competes with Stanzi for the #3 spot.

Round 7, Pick 1: Who cares?

Devin Taylor actually doesn't have the size to take up blockers in our 3-4. The guy is 266 lbs.

He's an OLB in our scheme.

QB: Smith, Stanzi, Renfree
RB: Charles, Lattimore, Droughn, Gray
FB: DiMarco

WR: Bowe, Patterson, Baldwin, McCluster, Robinson, Wylie
TE: Moeaki, Maneri, O'Connell

LT: Albert, Stephenson
LG: Allen, Hochstein
C: Hudson, Patterson
RG: Asamoah, Hochstein
RT: Winston, Stephenson

DE: Bailey, Dixon
NT: Poe, Powe, Toribio
DE: Jackson, Muir

OLB: Hali, Jones
ILB: Bostic, Sturdivant
ILB: Johnson, Greenwood
OLB: Houston, Taylor

CB: Flowers, Arenas, Daniels, Brown, Menzie
S: Berry, Abdullah, Lewis, Hartman

K: Succop
P: Colquitt
LS: Gafford

So, yeah -- mocking's harder than it looks, isn't it?

The advantage of having Alex Smith is that we don't need WRs any more. He can't throw accurately over 15 yards, so we can just draft TEs. That would save two picks from your mock.

I love Cordarelle Patterson. He would be better in Buffalo's spot around 8 than at #1 though.
