(Selden didn't make any impact at all really this season, we could've played White or Greene or Frankamp and had the same record)

Going into next year we should've developed some guys more. Just my .02 Maybe you liked seeing Conner ride the bench the entire year.
If you liked winning the conference Selden and Embiid were not wasted scholarships. I think we just saw that this team loses a ****load of games without Embiid. And I know Selden is you're new whipping boy, but he was the only moron not named Wiggins that could defend a guard. Also, he's the only jackass that made any outsides shots for the better part of a month.

Like it or not this team was ass without Embiid and Selden. 16 PPG from Wiggins isn't winning a goddamned thing without Embiid and Selden. And you're flat out wrong. Embiid and Selden were the difference in missing the tournament and a 2 seed.

You thought Frankamp was going to play? Are you high? If anything, the guy I wanted to see play more minutes was Frank Mason. But Tharpe got to playing some decent ball for a little bit and took his minutes.

If you think Frankamp is at all ready to take any of Selden's minutes, just .

Christ dude.

I can't imagine why anyone would think that Frankamp would steal minutes from anyone right now. He's slow footed on the defensive side and he is supposed to be a great outside threat.....shooting 31% from 3 point.

Kid is going to be a solid player for KU - in 2 years. He needs time to grow.

Another year to grow for Selden, Mason, Frankcamp, Traylor, Lucas, Greene for sure, and maybe Embiid?

Add in Mickelson, Alexander, Oubre, and quite possibly Turner?

I'm feeling oddly optimistic this morning. The future looks very, very bright.

Edit: Maybe Tharpe can pull his head out of his ass and help lead this team next season as well. Not counting on it though.

I agree with this. He didn't shoot great this year, but I can see him growing into an elite shooter by the time he is a junior or senior.

I don't know if he'll ever grow into anything more than an average defender though.

Sorry, Conner is an elite shooter and was from the moment he stepped on campus. Nobody shoots like he does, he nailed something like 24/25 in the 3pt contest at the HS all star weekend and scored at will on the USA-17 team he was on that was stacked. It's fine to say Selden is a better defender but Conner could definitely shoot if he was ever given a chance. But Self doesn't give shooters a chance, he gives them a leash. A short one at that - then he wonders why his team always plays these disgusting 60-55 NCAA games in March. It's a wonder!

I don't see how anyone could watch Tharpe, particularly the last few weeks, and honestly believe he brings anything to the table. He has zero business starting at a school like Kansas. Zero.

He shot 31% for the year. 15 of 48. Mason shot better from 3 than he did in just as many shots. When you are an outside shooter that is slow defensively, you have one thing you HAVE to do if you want to play..... make 3 pointers. He didn't, which is why is was bottom of the rotation all year long. I'm sure he actually is a great outsider shooter. All indications are that he is. But, the game was too big for him this year. He'll get there.

I think the reaction is that, in a tough tournament weekend where the offense was harried and out of sync, Conner was the only one who didn't panic, didn't turn it over, and didn't pick up his dribble. He made big shots, sure, but far more important was that he made the correct pass. He appears to understand the offense far better than either tharpe or mason from a PG perspective.

And unlike both of those guys... Frankamp actually played PG in high school. It shows. He's much more comfortable shooting off the dribble than he is floating to the corner for a catch and shoot 3. I'd start him 10 times out of 10 over Mason right now and going forward.

The point was that a 30 game season tells you more about how good you are than a single good or bad game. It's why conference tournaments aren't looked at as having the same kind of value as winning the conference over the duration of the regular season. That's how you truly differentiate the best programs (KU, Duke, UNC, MSU, UK) from the merely very good ones.

Although, just a reminder for some:

Cold comfort: KU still No. 1 in tournament wins this century (38). MSU can hit 39 with a national title.

Bill Self has proven time and again he doesn't care about ball security or long range shooting, he cares about tough defense. So we're going to continue to get these ugly-ass NCAA games as long as he's here, and he'll continue to get upset by lesser teams who do value the ball and who do, normally, utilize the 3.

You put yourself at a serious disadvantage mathematically if you can't shoot the 3. It doesn't hurt you when you overwhelm lesser teams but when you advance and talent evens out, it comes home to roost. Conner's ball security and outside shooting MORE than makes up for Tharpe's defense, and frankly, for Selden's either.

If Embiid had played, they wouldn't have lost in the 2nd round. Probably E8 at least. Maybe even better than that. He was that important.

All he did against EKU (an awful basketball team) was limit mistakes. That's fine because it's what the team badly needed at that point (Tharpe was out to lunch in that game), but you need more than that from a PG if you hope to win against actual competition (not to mention some level of defense). He's nowhere near the creator that either of Tharpe/Mason are right now (he can't create for himself and others at all, his role in the offense in the spare minutes he played was that of a spot shooter) and certainly shouldn't start over either one unless he raises his game significantly in the summer. Mason is the one of the two who had the very impressive freshman season, especially considering his recruiting status coming in.

If Naadir Tharpe starts next year, I'm going to stop watching every game. I don't want to waste more time than necessary with Jeff Hawkins Part 2. If Self wants to keep trotting that guy out, more power to him. Other coaches know he's a joke and other fan boards all know it too. He doesn't even defend. And he's never, ever, ever shot well in a big game. And never ever will.
