This was one of my teachers in the late 70's early 80's, he never messed with me but I was never alone with him either, other boys said to never be alone with him and we called him tinkerbell behind his back, he used to beat the hell out of us with a wooden paddle and he hit hard. I always thought this dude was weird. I could have been a victim too.

GREENSBORO, N.C.– A High Point man and former teacher was arrested at his home Wednesday for sex crimes allegedly committed against one of his middle school students in the early 1980s.

Thomas Cridlebaugh, 71, was arrested by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and charged with three first-degree sex offenses and seven second-degree sex offenses.

The alleged crimes happened between 1981 and 1983. The victim attended Ledford Middle School in Davidson County.

“We believe there are other victims who were abused by Cridlebaugh based on all of the information we have gathered up to this point,” stated Scott Williams, SBI special agent in charge. “In many cases an arrest signifies the end of an investigation, but in this case it is just the beginning.”

The case began when an adult victim recently contacted the SBI to report the abuse he says he suffered as a boy at the hands of Cridlebaugh. The victim says the abuse occurred primarily at the middle school. The SBI took this information to District Attorney Garry Frank who requested the SBI investigate the allegations against Cridlebaugh.

The SBI has identified other alleged victims who acknowledge they were sexually abused by Cridlebaugh and some have provided corroborative statements, but agents are continuing to search for additional alleged victims, according to Williams.

Williams said releasing more details about the victims and the case could negatively impact the investigation and prosecution of Cridlebaugh.

“This investigation is not over and we will not undermine the investigation by sharing further facts of the case with the public at this time,” he said. “Our goal, at the moment, is to find other victims and witnesses, if they exist. Of course, we hope that is not the case, but we will do our due diligence.”

Cridlebaugh is in the Davidson County Jail under a $5 million bond. His court date is scheduled for Thursday.

Davidson County Schools released the following statement Thursday:

“The Davidson County Schools are certainly saddened and surprised by charges against one of our former employees. Upon being made aware of these charges, the Davidson County Schools immediately reviewed the contents of Mr. Thomas Cridlebaugh’s personnel file. There are certainly no reports of any such behavior or incidents that were brought to our attention during the course of his employment with the Davidson County Schools. Our thoughts and condolences are with any and all victims in this matter and we will certainly cooperate with law enforcement as requested.”

When you unload bales of hay and disperse them amongst the cattle, the yarn that is left over can become quite hazardous to the animals if eatin, so we would have to go and pick them up, now this might now seem like nothin, but if you have ever unloaded hay you know that you do a lot of em, so for every bail of hay that we unloaded, we had to pick up the yarn. We usually saved the yarn pickin up for after we unload all the hay, it just made more sense that way. Time consumtion was of no shortage, but we didnt mind we had all day. Plus just being able to help dad with the farm was reward enough for me, but maggie and sue had other plans, you would often find them wonderin around playin games, id have to go over there and whip them with a pipe to make em work again. Milkin cows was something i enjoyed, not because it was fun, but because it was something i was good at. I wasnt good at a lot of things, but i was good at milkin cows so i decided that was one of my favorite activities. When i was young i had often dreamed of becoming a professional milker, but they got machines for that now so now i just sit. and chew.
