Favorite Movies in the MCU

I mentioned this in the other thread, but the wife and I are just wrapping up a full rewatch of all of the MCU movies. It seems like BRC's question about my favorite movies might make for a good poll and discussion, so here it is.

What are your favorite MCU movies? For the sake of the poll, we'll make it top five.

For me, they've been really hitting it out of the park lately, as I'd put the past three movies all in my top five. I'd probably say Guardians Vol. 1 would be my favorite overall, and Doctor Strange rounds up the top five.

Hope that's a sign of more good things to come.

I hope that I didn't f**k up the poll too much as I only picked four. AM, CA2, A1, and T3. I couldn't make my mind up between CA1, IM1, or IW to round out a top five. Only nineteen selections and this was as hard as trying to pick a top five for Seinfeld or South Park would be. I still need to watch G2 and Homecoming to be completely caught up in the MCU

Is Deadpool a MCU movie? If so, I would have voted for it.

Not for now at least. Deadpool is part of the X-Men universe. While all of them are Marvel characters, the X-Men characters are all owned by Fox, so Disney hasn't been able to write them into the MCU. It's not out of the question that they might crossover sometime in the future if Disney's acquisition of Fox goes through.

Damn. They were pretty hit or miss during the first couple of years but starting with Civil War on down they've all been great. Pretty amazing how they can take relative unknown characters like the Guardians, Dr Strange, and Black Panther and make them as popular as they have.

I see. I didn't realize they were separate things.

I put Iron Man down because to me it really is what kicked this all off and I really loved it starting out. I may have put Ragnarok in there instead of it but just felt I needed to do it homage. First Superhero movie I've really loved like that since probably Dark Knight.

It's kind of interesting which ones rise to the top. It's almost as if we subconsciously try not to pick the same franchise more than once. Within each franchise, the trends are kind of surprising (to me at least):
  • Iron Man 1 rises to the top, but not 2 or 3 (not surprising).
  • Thor: Ragnarok was clearly a positive reboot, as it rises to the top, but not the other two (somewhat surprising).
  • Guardians 1 rises to the top, but not 2 (somewhat surprising since they were both really solid).
  • Captain America is the only one that is somewhat balanced, with at least a couple picking each of them. However, Winter Soldier is definitely the big one (not surprising).
  • All of the "new guys" have a few fans, but their impact may be a bit diluted, as none of them have really risen to the level of the others above. It'll be interesting to see how everything works in the next phase with at least some of the pillar franchises coming to an end.

I think the first Captain America was pretty Mediocre, and GotG 2 couldn't capture the magic of the first. Too many forced attempts at humor, and the golden people were lame. And amongst hardcore comic movie fans, Thor 2 is an abomination.

**** this is hard. I like them all. Even the ones others don't. Ultron was cool. I thought Thor dark world was interesting as well.

I guess I'm too easy to please.
