If the NFL is rigged...isn't Andy vs the Eagles the best storyline?

Stars seem to be aligning in our favor if indeed the league is fixed.

What say you, BlackOp?

Some teams have a strong enough game to thumb their nose at the officiating.. winning anyway.. but it's a seldom accomplishment. It's becoming more and more obvious.. eye-rolling.. and slowly killing any chance of viewing the NFL as anything more than an occasional bit of mindless entertainment.
Explain how that would be done... Forcefully pushed by who? Goodell talks to the refs before the gms and orders them to favor a certain team? We all know someone would have talked by now...

Goodell, and the real money-men above him, sure. Phone calls made.. prior to or even during games. Refs will slip timely calls in to make it all the harder for targeted teams. Once the flow of a game is headed in the right direction, and the result likely.. the refs will start throwing calls the other way to throw off suspicion.

Why would these refs bite the hand that feeds them very well to execute master's bidding?

Not buying it.. If that was the case NFL would have never approved instant replays and again someone would have talked by now.. Too many ppl would have needed to be in on it. Someone would have talked to a family member/wife when they were drunk who then would have told someone or 60 Minutes/some reporter would have found out etc... A reporter could make millions and be set for life with a story like that.

But I respect your opinion.

Suggesting the NFL is rigged implies an incredible amount of control on a whole lot of people. It would just take one whistleblower to bring the whole thing down. Certain players do get favorable calls or non-calls, that happens in every sport. I'm sure the NFL would love to have their marquee teams always at the top... are they conspiring together to make that happen? I just can't buy it.

If things fell into place and we had a Rams/Jags Super Bowl... I think the NFL would cringe, but I don't buy into some notion they would do whatever is necessary in the playoffs to ensure that it was a KC/PHI, PIT/MIN or NEP/CAR matchup because they liked the draw better.

It's just crazy talk and dreams of jaded fans with misguided notions of being screwed over for decades. Teams fall apart and excel for all sorts of reasons.

I'd love to see a Rams/Jags matchup... how could any of the conspiracy theorists explain that one.

Nope, not the best storyline. Nationally, nobody gives a shit about the Alex 'n Andy show.
The aging vet going out on a high note is much more compelling.

Oddly enough, that was my pick before the season with my team at work. Only reason I picked PHI is because my RVP lives there.... would be an interesting matchup.

If it is rigged, I really don't believe that the motive is the possibility of certain matchups. There have been too many examples where the seemingly perfect matchups for the Super Bowl have gone down the drain in the conference championship games. This is an older example, but in 93 we lost out on having Montana vs Young in favor of having Buffalo vs Dallas part II. I tend to think the motives would be directed more towards gambling habits and accommodating point spreads for regular season games.

I don't think that matters either. Vegas knows how to make the odds so it is almost impossible to win consistently and are there are so many gambling addicts out there who do dumb s**t they almost always make money.

Most ppl who bet on sports are gambling addicts, average fans and hardcore fans. The guys making the lines are way smarter and more objective than the average fan and hardcore fans love their teams so much it's hard for them to place bets objectively. They always bet on their favorite team because they always think their team will win and they overestimate how good other teams are based on how their team did against them. Plus you are already losing $10 on every $100 you bet.

So in general the bookies and Vegas always win.

My old man has gambled on sports forever and always had these systems that he came up with. I guess he's done well over the years as he never ended up in the poorhouse. The one thing I give him credit for was being completely neutral on sports teams. He always told me the first rule of gambling is not to bet on your favorite team. He never really had a favorite team, which takes the joy out of watching sports, at least for me.
