Late night bullshit: 1st round picks

This is the franchise we follow.

Since we last drafted a 1st round QB, we've drafted 7 DL, two safeties, four running backs, two tight ends, and an entire OL's worth of tackles. We've also traded our first away three times.

2012: NT
2011: WR
2010: SS
2009: DE
2008: DT & OT
2007: WR
2006: DE
2005: ILB
2004: traded out
2003: RB
2002: DT
2001: traded away
2000: WR
1999: OT
1998: OT
1997: TE
1996: FS
1995: OT
1994: RB
1993: traded away
1992: CB
1991: RB
1990: ILB
1989: OLB
1988: DE
1987: RB
1986: OT
1985: TE
1984: NT
1983: QB

I hate this goddamn team. I ****ing hate them.

With the first overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, The Kansas City Chiefs select... Geno smith, Quarterback from The University of West Virginia..

That moment chiefs fans will be cheering and screaming. Knowing that our lives have forever changed. While Alex Smith cries. KC fans rejoice.

You see, in life, we can't all have parades thrown for us.

Some of us have to be on the sidewalk, with sticky cotton-candy'd fingers, sloppily fingering boogers out of our noses while the truly fortunate stride down the street in front of us.

Such is the fate of the Chiefs fan.

As life finds time to reward some, and deny others, we will eternally exist as wallpaper.

And we'll all look back on days like today and think... Remember that one time we traded two draft picks away for Alex Smith and told ourselves he was The Guy? Why did we do that?

And we'll laugh, our chuckles heavied with the suppression of sorrow. The lines in our skin will deepen from the despair.

And people will wonder... how could they live like that. Who would choose that life.

*pats you on the head*

I'll tell you who, sonny boy.

The nose-pickers on the sidewalk, cheering on the parade.

Sorry if the circumstances this year weren't ideal for you, Dorsey, but when you go to a new franchise, you're inheriting all of their previous successes and failures with you. "Your way" which has been tried thousands of times here is getting old. And very likely when you fail because of it, your credibility will go out the window far quicker than if you had just said, "Holy shit this franchise hasn't drafted a QB in a long time. We need to change that."
I'm hoping the thought process is filled with two options:

A. We think a 2nd round QB is our guy and we know he will be there at 34.

or

B. We don't really like this QB class, but we have a temporary decent starter at QB, while we wait until next year to draft a 1st round QB that we want.

I'm about 6-deep on a pack of Three Blind Mice, a fantastic stout brew from a Springfield brewery.

I am feeling great.

Freed, really. Like, I honestly never have to give a shit about the Chiefs again.

The blinders have been taken from my eyes, and I can view the world as it is.

A hostile world full of barron gestures of hope, masking what is certain to be an inevitable march towards obscurity.

Aliens will discover our civilization a millenia from now, long after we've annihilated the world with nuclear winter.

They'll puzzle over our society as they try to put the pieces together.

What did they do all day? Study outer space? Try to improve their ability to provide healthcare for their children?

The sad truth, of course, is that some of us did. But most of us spent an insane amount of time following an organization of no consequence as it shat on us day after day after day.

These are the days of history, soon to be forgotten. We are the answer to questions the future will never ask.

If Alex Smith is traded and we don't take a QB in the first or second round, I'm just not going to be able to watch this team very much this year.

Maybe a few quarters here and there, but that's it.

The fortunate thing is, I don't need luck.

I can just exist, take this small corner of the universe and call it mine.

All extraneous distractions, I can dismiss freely.

So Geno is faster than Cam Newton and Andrew Luck? Arm even more impressive than speed. Oh, forgot. Bad year for qb's.
