Fox - Gotham (Pre Batman)

This can't possibly go wrong or be prematurely cancelled...

Batman Prequel 'Gotham' Headed to Fox

Quote:
Before Batman, there was, well, a lot of crime in Gotham City, and only Commissioner James Gordon was there to fight back. He's the subject of a new Fox series, Gotham, based on the character introduced in Detective Comics #27 – the same issue that first presented Batman.

The new show will focus on Gordon in the years before Batman, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which means the caped crusader won't himself appear on Gotham. The show, which received a direct-to-series order from Fox, will be written and executive produced by Bruno Heller, showrunner of The Mentalist.

Gotham and Tina Fey's as yet untitled new comedy with Matt Hubbard and Robert Carlock are the only shows to land a straight-to-series order from Fox for the 2014-15 broadcast season.
We all know where it will start. Gordon is a young up and coming detective, hand picked to find the murderer of the Waynes.

Honestly, I would much rather somebody made a Downton-esque show about Alfred taking care of an orphaned Bruce, and raising him to have a strong moral compass and compassion for the poor and weak.

Ben McKenzie to Play Young Commissioner Gordon in Fox’s Batman Origin Series

“Gotham” has found its Detective James Gordon.

Fox and Warner Bros. TV have tapped Ben McKenzie to star in “Gotham,” casting the “Southland” alum as a young version of DC Comics’ famed Commissioner Gordon.

Fox topper Kevin Reilly announced at the net’s winter TCA session that “Gotham” will feature the origin story of Gordon along with Gotham City’s notable villains. A young Bruce Wayne will also be featured, as “Gotham” follows Wayne from his pre-teen years to the moment when it puts on the Batman cape for the first time.

Bruno Heller penned the pilot script for “Gotham,” which has a series commitment at Fox. He will exec produce with Danny Cannon, who also helmed the pilot.

McKenzie is no stranger to the Fox family, as the thesp landed his breakout role on the net’s sudsy drama “The O.C.” McKenzie also has experience working in the Batman universe, having voiced Bruce Wayne/Batman in 2011 animated pic “Batman: Year One.”

Sooo is this still focused on Bruce or Gordon? Pre-teen Bruce sounds awful.

Alfred and Penguin cast....

Announcement follows news that Ben McKenzie will topline the project
TV Reporter
AJ Marechal
TV Reporter @Variety_AJM

After tapping Ben McKenzie to play a young Commissioner Gordon, Fox continues to bulk up its “Gotham” cast, announcing classic roles including the Penguin and Alfred Pennyworth for the much-anticipated “Batman” origin series.

Robin Lord Taylor will play Oswald Cobblepot, or the man better known as DC Comics villain the Penguin. With the brains of a chess grandmaster and the morals of a jackal, Cobblepot is a low-level psychopath for gangster Fish Mooney, and hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor.

Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s butler, will be played by Sean Pertwee. A tough-as-nails ex-marine from East London, Pennyworth has loyally served the Wayne family. Now, in the wake of their tragic deaths, he’s fiercely protective of the young Bruce Wayne — the boy who will eventually become Batman.

Additionally, Zabryna Guevara has been cast as Captain Essen, Detective Gordon’s boss at the Gotham City Police Department Homicide Squad. Essen balances the two worlds of police and politics with a Machiavellian skill that’s as much corporate litigator as cop. Erin Richards will play Barbara Kean, the fiance of Detective Gordon (McKenzie). A sophisticated emergency doctor, Kean stands by her husband amid the corrupt world of Gotham. Richards is repped by WME, Magnolia Entertainment and Curtis Brown in the UK.

Bruno Heller penned the pilot script for “Gotham,” which explores the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that made Gotham famous. A young Bruce Wayne has yet to be cast, though Fox topper Kevin Reilly hinted that he will be featured in the drama. Project currently has a series commitment at Fox.

Comics shown are apparently Gotham Central, Batman Year One, Long Halloween and Dark Victory. If those are at all influential on the development of the show, this could be awesome.

Nolan listed a bunch of trades before doing his movies and they were virtually nothing like it. These hollywood idiots with their own cash milking agenda don't know how to handle existing IPs properly.

lol penguin being fiercely protective of young Bruce? Give me a break. This will probably be one of those shows where every Batman villain makes an appearance in some way or another before he's actually Batman. They should be reading Gates of Gotham or Hush instead.

Couldn't agree more. I think it's also pretty shitty that someone would get cast as the main character who hasn't already read all of those and more.

Yeah honestly I was thinking that it might be decent until it was like.. before.. RIDDLER, CATWOMAN, POISON IVY. Then it was just straight up facepalm from there and now I know for a fact that it will be shit.

I like the casting......but these actors need better material than this. in fact, They have already proven they can carry stronger material. Need better agents.
