Out of high school Opurum turned down offers from Florida and Notre Dame to go to KU. Reason being they wanted him as a fullback and he wanted to be a tailback. He was moved over to linebacker due to lack of talent/depth at that position and KU having other runningbacks to use (believe James Sims was the reason he moved).

In reality he is probably best suited for a fullback role in the NFL imo. Of course we have many of those on roster.
