Entry Level Electronic Drum Kit

anyone have any suggestions?
I used to play guitar quite extensively and have been playing since 1993, but have become burned out on it and I haven't played at any length for about 3 years. I'm looking for a new hobby and would like to try something completely new.

I'd like to get an entry level kit, but also one that I won't 'grow out of' so to speak, should I continue to progress at a decent rate.

Unlike guitar where I just learned on the fly etc tab etc, I'd like to learn the drums from scratch - and understand the techniques and methods.

What do you guys think?

Know what 'grinds my gears'?

going to Guitar Center to just browse kits, see them upclose and speak to someone who knows something abou them.

what do I get? a 17 yr old kid, who upon telling him I might be in the market for an entry level kit here in the future and asking what might fit that bill, directs me to the $2k Roland Kit lol

wtf?
they had some great deals on used acoustic kits (appeared to be shells only)but no only do I think that's no 'doable' from a noise perspective, after you factor in a throne, cycmbals, snare etc....it can get pricey.

Awesome dude, thanks a lot.
So, either of those would fit the bill? I only ask because I"m completely new and know nothing about brands etc.

that's MUCH better in price.

Definitely.

As guitar players (I've play guitar & drums for 10+ years) you know how it goes. First one you own, you just want something that gets the job done. Learn your basics and see if it's for you. It doesn't have to be a Gibson Les Paul, DW Kit, or a Roland V-Pad set right off the bat.

I own the Alesis for almost 3+ years now. It's done it's job quite well for me since I'm in an apartment. I personally recommend that one even though it's a little more money.

Not to mention, you can always upgrade the "brain" if you want more realistic sounds, add more pads to expand on the kit and the only time to replace the set itself - is if you want the more acoustic feeling pads.

Hope that helped...

That Simmons model's module looks just like Bob Dole's E-ED001. Pretty decent sounding module for a sub-$300 kit.

I like the hi-hat and the snare sounds on that brain. Sounds good.

I have to get ready for work. I actually bought a pretty extensive set up made by Ion for the Rockband game. I'll post pics. It's pretty cool. You can plug a brain into it and take it on stage. It's really how I learned the concept of playing the drums. People can laugh all they want, I went from beginner to expert and playing nightmare level songs. It's a legit start.

yeah, I got pretty good too.I loved the rock band/Guitar Hero games etc. I think on alot of the real drum kits (i say 'real', but you know what I mean) you can use an adapter to plug into your brain/PS3 etc and play those games if one were so inclined..

one thing I definitely want to learn is all the techniques, rolls, rudiments, paradiddles (Sp?) etc to apply around the kit. and learn to read music.
I'm treating this as a completely new instrument/starting from scratch. I'm going to have patience etc, and probably take lessons shortly after getting used to handling the sticks, striking, etc.
