Help me build a new rig

Open to advice as it's been a decade-plus since I built my own desktop.

Here's my needs:
  • Primary use is photo editing in Lightroom, no gaming. So I'm thinking decent on board graphics will suffice?
  • I have a 4K Samsung 28-inch monitor, so nothing needed there.
  • Would like smallish, but that's not a necessity if it's more cost efficient to go with a standard mini tower or something.
  • No DVD ROM needed.
  • Decently hot, semi bare bones system.
  • Would like SSD for system, and at least 1TB for storage.

And go.

I don't care for their new BIOS because it's difficult to find certain options so I always use Classic view. I have to disable C States (which is a power saving feature that will cause jitter and other audio issues) and EIST. Both were impossible to find without the Classic view.
No, that was the first thing I checked. And yeah, that BIOS view sucks. I made the classic view the default.

Something was screwy with those two drives; I couldn't see them in the BIOS, either. I got replacements from Amazon and they both worked flawlessly on the first try.

Now looking for a decent sync program. I didn't end up setting them up as a RAID1.
That was just bad luck then. My motherboard on my PC fried last Sunday. Power wouldnt even go through it at all. Sometimes computers can be a real bitch.

Gigabyte support on this on board video issue is utterly worthless.

Have you tried flashing the BIOS? If so, I'd just send it back. It sounds like a faulty board and it's best to replace while you can.

I think after 90 days, you'll have to deal with Gigabyte directly, which will suck.

Meh. I contacted them on the hope that maybe they knew of the issue and had a relatively easy fix.

My rig is up and running, and I didn't really care about on-board video only. I had every intention of running a separate GPU anyway.

Two boards with the same issues, if I sent it back, I'd go with something else. I won't continue to beat my head with this board.

Support keeps telling me to do things three responses after I told them I did that. The latest thing is they told me to disconnect all peripherals and try to post with nothing but memory attached. I've told them AT LEAST four times already that I've done that; that I've tried with AND without any peripherals - everything attached, as well as only memory and monitor attached - and I get the same behavior.

amazon has a GTX 980TI for $614. Ships in 2-4 weeks but that is a good thing as there are rumors that amazon will have a 20th anniversary sale this month. So I ordered, and will cancel and reorder if it drops further.

AMD drivers are a mess right now. AMD's Fury X is less memory, but faster memory. Fury X is a power hog. The GTX 980ti is cheaper right now on amazon and has better support.

AMD just released new drivers and really improved their line of GPUs. Nvidia just dropped pricing on all of their 980TI cards by $20. Competition is good.

I just searched my graphic card to see if they were still for sale, and it's going for over $400!

EVGA GTX760 sc. What is so special about it?

I think they match the price drop for a few weeks after purchase and pay you the difference. Check their ToS to be sure, though.
