More Mobile Access to Football
The National Football League and Verizon announced today a multi-year partnership in which Verizon's... will stream in-market and national games, including national pre-season, regular season, playoff games, and the Super Bowl nationwide to sports fans -- regardless of mobile network. The partnership kicks off in January 2018 with streaming of the NFL playoffs on Yahoo and Yahoo Sports, in addition to go90 and the NFL mobile app.

Verizon's current NFL Mobile app is a buggy piece of shit. It's amazing that brands as big as verizon and the NFL can't assemble a functioning app.

Until the NFL fixes their stupid DirecTV contract, they'll do nothing to fix the actual problem. Which is that people want to watch out-of-market games on multiple devices without being forced to install a dish and most are willing to pay a decent price to do that. This doesn't fix that problem. It's really amazing that the most popular sport in America is so stuck on an old fashioned approach to media delivery.

Imagine if instead of the DirecTV deal, the NFL gave cable companies ability to sell "Sunday Ticket" and allowed Twitter or Amazon to stream all games. They'd build a hell of a lot more fan loyalty, significantly grow subscriptions, and each of those groups would gladly fork over a shitload of money to get the rights. It's amazing what kind of stupidity the NFL will resort to to earn a quick dollar.
