Game of Thrones (spoiler-free zone)

A few have suggested it, might as well test the waters. The idea is to give people who haven't read the books a safe place to talk about the show.

A few quick ground rules:

• No Spoilers!!!!! for upcoming episodes.
• Larger Song of Ice and Fire discussion should be limited to the other thread although I think a tiny bit of book delving to fill in holes should be okay (example of this would be talking about Catelyn and her treatment of the wolves in the novel, which was alluded to on TV but never really made clear...)
• Everything that happened that week is fair game once an episode airs. So if you don't watch on Sunday night, I'd stay outta here until you do...

Sounds exactly like the kind of tiresome online discussion I'd want to avoid.

Irreparably damaged, though? We're talking about the guy who pushed a kid out of a window to what he believed would be his probable death in the first episode. Jaime isn't exactly all sunshine and light...never has been. He's incredibly conflicted.

Right, the sister humping, kid killing (attempted) character is really so sympathetic.

The books do a great job with him and many other characters of showing that what initially appears black and white is not always so, and everyone has lots of shades of gray. And his killing of the Mad King certainly gets exonerated in my book, and therefore he is "misunderstood" or demeaned for what really was a good act.

But that doesn't exonerate him from the many other terrible things he has done. So yeah, he raped his sister, who he's been steadily boning since god-knows-when. That's hardly the straw that broke the back of his moral compass.

I honestly think a lot of it is how hot female viewers think Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is IRL.

Same with Jason Mamoa in the first season.

And the directors have said they wanted it to be more of a no its wrong here and now, oh who am I kidding, I can't resist, moment and guessed by reaction that they flubbed the execution.

Yes, it was just an obvious point to make in regard to his history.

Jaime has seemingly been on a slow character arc of change and redemption the last few seasons, but that doesn't mean there won't be some stumbling blocks along the way. While he's emerged as a multi-dimensional character, he's still coming from a pretty dark place and that's still very much a part of him.

To me, the scene signified how ****ed up their relationship has become (and it was already really messed up before). Jaime can't resist her still despite all that's happened to him and she is still more than willing to manipulate his emotions to get what she wants (Tyrion/Sansa dead).

No doubt. I will point out that mass murderer Dzohkar (sp?) Tsarnaev, the survivor of the two brothers that bombed the Boston Marathon last year, apparently has a devoted female fan following.

We're not talking about a character in a show, we're talking about a real cold-blooded heartless mass murderer.

Didn't see that. I do believe that the dead brother was the ringleader and has "more" blame, but the younger, surviving brother, clearly understands what happens when you set off a bomb in a very crowded location. So yeah, he didn't lead the charge, but he's still a mass murdering monster and can DIAF.
