Why This Loss Hurts So Much
I completely disagree with those who say we had more talent than the Royals. In fact, I think we had the least amount of talent starting the playoffs than any other team in the AL. We had an offense missing 3 starters. There isn't another team in the AL that could have done more under these conditions. The reason it hurts so bad is that we lucked into the best matchup possible and our magic ran out. I was hoping beyond hope for more magic but was cognizant of the fact that our offense wasn't going to be able to score in Detroit, Oakland or Kansas City. We need more speed. We need more obp. We need more consistency.

The most painful thing about this is that our luck got transferred to a team that wasn't much better than us. Make no mistake, had we gotten their luck, we could have won. The answer is to get better because next year, we may find ourselves facing a team with a 200-250 million cap in the playoffs.

KC didn't swing for the hills.

WE did... every. Single. Time.

It was like clockwork.

Yost did the same thing pretty much every game. Grind out a couple of runs, swap in a few pinch runners in late innings and manage the bullpen properly.

And now they're going to the WS and we aren't.

MSK

We had plenty of opportunities, especially with bases loaded, to counteract the luck the classless royals displayed. For some reason following the first game loss we seemed to choke and lose belief in ourselves - which is maddening because that belief has won us so many games this year. It is a shame we didn't get the Angels as I think they were a better matchup for us and think we would be WS bound right now, but it wasn't to be.

I don't think the royals luck can continue, and think - and hope - it will be a procession for the NL winners.

Just gutted really. Such an immense opportunity now gone. And to think a few weeks ago many were talking up a possible beltway WS, and I was certain we would be there with or without the Nats.

Oh, and on another note - if the Os had reached the WS I would have won ?500 and if they won that, it would be ?2000 - so extra gutted to get this close and throw it away

I'll accept a conspiracy theory over the thought that the Chiefs players just have too many babies to worry about so they can't worry as much about a silly game. Or that Andrew Luck hasn't paid his dues and all that playoff success is coming too early for him. He doesn't deserve it!

I think the size of the K saved us a bit, they would have had something like 4 home runs last night at their home park.

Exactly. However, if the series went the way everyone thought it would... (Royals losing in 6 or 7) and their players pulled the same stunts? It would've been overlooked or laughed about. Maybe a 20 second blurb on espn.

They're pissed that the Royals got hot, actually played up to their talent level, Yost out-managed Buck and they were obviously outmatched. They've got their rose colored glasses on and refuse to believe their team had their shit pushed in by a small market afterthought of an organization.
**** Baltimore and **** what they think. When KC brings home the trophy they'll be forced to shut the **** up.

There seem to be a few posters at least that see the truth for what it is. The Royals played better. Our bullpen was nails, and our defense was unlike anything I've ever seen before. I know Cain had a good series with the bat, but I almost think his outstanding play in the outfield had more to do with him getting the ALCS MVP.

Yea, but they built their team around that stupid ****ing little league park they play in. We built our team around defense and speed so we can cover our giant ass field. Let's not act like they didn't have home-field advantage.

Yep. My friends were congratulating me on the victory in the third quarter. I just said, "Keep on watching."

It's sad.

Much better than Nellie Cruz claiming that the series WOULD go back to Baltimore.

By "safe" and "beat the tag", do you mean "out by a mile"?
