Bob Costas on the future of football: 'This game destroys people's brains'

“The reality is that this game destroys people’s brains," he said Tuesday night.

Speaking at a roundtable discussion at the University of Maryland, Costas, who hosted Football Night in America on NBC for more than a decade, said the sport could collapse over time, barring a development in technology to make it reasonably safe. He said the decline of football, which was once “a cash machine,” is the most significant story in American sports.

“The cracks in the foundation are there,” Costas said. “The day-to-day issues, as serious as they may be, they may come and go. But you cannot change the nature of the game. I certainly would not let, if I had an athletically gifted 12- or 13-year-old son, I would not let him play football.”

Of course !!

But after all the NFL has gone through these past several seasons with the majority of Goodell's bad decisions from Ray Rice to "kneeling" and you can't see the politics behind all of it ? This is where the NFL and Goodell are paying the price for following "political correctness" to the tee and they are "stuck between a rock and hard place" for sure. Especially now that they had to acknowledge that the majority of their fanbase lean conservative and love the military but their product is 80% black and a portion of them "kneeling" but yet not having the "balls" to order them to stand which they could have BUT when you start embracing PC culture you pay a price. If you can't see the politics in all this you are very naive.

"Was" seems to be a common theme here.

NFL players are bigger at their positions in 2018 than in 2008 just as 205 pound defensive tackles playing for a Hall of Fame College coach in 1988 are extinct and have been replaced by 300-350 pound defensive lineman.

Uneducated speculation, which is wrong.
