You don't need high quality and you want cost effective? You just want some sound and that's it? Then go to walmart or target and buy their cheapies. They make sound just fine.

Pick up a set of LG speakers. You can get a little 3 piece stereo set up for $30. If they don't need or want anything specific, then just stick with a name brand, spend what you wanna spend and call it a day.

This is a good thread to ask something I've been wondering about for a good while... am I the only noticing that laptop speakers are CRAP now?
Years ago I could get a laptop that halfway rocked out when I listened to music, but the last two I've had including this HP is CRAP. Good stock speakers have died out, why is that... is it just to sell the aftermarket plug-in stuff? |

It will continue to get worse, as there's no way to accurately respresent sound when a computer or TV is centimeters thick. |

Actually, I have Focal Solo 6 Be's with the matching subwoofer, which clocks in right at about $5k. |

The Altec "champagne flutes" with bass box are pretty damned awesome.

I bought these (except mine are silver) for 275 almost a decade ago and they are still one of the best sounding sets I've heard.

If you're looking for something very basic, but with good sound - give these a shot.
