The Anthem/Cigna merger is pretty much the exact template you'd be looking at here. There's nothing really sinister about it; it's pretty much basic math. Now I'd be out over my skis trying to get too far into the woods on how that's calculated (I'm a long time removed from that particular bit of study), but it's hard to see this as anything worth more than a shrug over.

The Illuminati didn't step in and put a stop to this one or anything...
Maybe not the Illuminati - but worse. In June, a group of Senate Democrats led by Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) wrote a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions criticizing the deal.

In that letter, Democrats warned of potential problems of the
merged company owning CNN and argued that no conditions would be
sufficient to reduce the dealís potential harm.

"Allowing one giant company like a combined AT&T-Time Warner to control the content available to Americans would threaten the basic principles of
our democracy, especially given Time Warner's ownership of key
information sources like CNN," the Democrats wrote.

The letter was also signed by Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), and Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.). Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) signed the letter as well.

Okay. How is this remotely inappropriate? Congresscritters are perfectly entitled to express views/concerns to regulators about actions/events/things within their sphere of regulation.

They could very easily be right.

Again, I'm not sure what there is to get this up in arms about. Anti-trust laws exist to prevent exactly these kind of potentially monopolistic practices and potentially dangerous mergers.

If it comes down to litigation, it will grilled every which way and no amount of stupid letters from Democratic Senators will actually matter. In the end, it will come down to a question of market concentration.

So?

Did not say a word about it being inappropriate.

There was some discussion about 'how all this got started.'

Here are the Turner brands.

It should be pretty clear to anyone that CNN is the prize jewel in this portfolio that the DOJ is choking on here. I think Drudge has the right of it.

But they're not going to because DirecTV doesn't produce content, so it's a moot point.
