OUTSTANDING... if this is the subtle reasoning behind everything in the last episode, Vince Gilligan is a genius. The premise: Breaking Bad finale was a dying man's fantasy.

That was neat.

Would have liked to see Walt cut up a line of blue meth and snort it down right he went in for the showdown. Don't know why it just seems like it would have been appropriate.

Hate when these shows end. They make the transition between the weekend and Monday seem more bearable.

Walt snorting the meth then mowing down the Nazis would have gone against the show's consistent theme of the destructiveness of drugs. When has anyone on BB ever done anything good when tuned up?

Not that I am defending or even like the "Walt snorting meth" idea, but murdering a room full of people and then basically killing himself isn't what I'd consider "good". Even though the people he killed were awful and he didn't end up killing himself (though his intentions were to die there one way or another), a scene like that wouldn't exactly shed any positive light whatsoever on drugs.

Also, another thing that might kinda ruin the dream theory - did Walt have any idea that Todd was obsessed with Lydia? Because Todd had that creepy ringtone when Lydia called.

It seems this dream theory is all wishful thinking for people that wanted something different than what they got. I do like the idea and the discussion of it, but I am almost as certain as I can be that Gilligan didn't intend it to be this way.

It isn't consistent in theme or action and that's important in fiction. Characters need to act within a specific range that their psychology has defined. One of the themes of the show has been the destructive nature of drugs and how they cause characters to act irrationally. Tuco, Jesse, Jane. All either destroyed themselves, were going to destroy themselves, or did something so stupid as to get themselves killed immediately after using.

Walt snorting a line of the blue then enacting a clever ruse to wipe out the AB isn't consistent with the themes of the show.

If it's all his dream than Walt is the omniscient narrator and can know anything. That's why "it was all a dream" is such a lazy, hackneyed method of storytelling.

There is no doubt Walt got off super light in the end. Not only did nothing really terrible happen to him compared to virtually every major character, he had a chance to fix things and get closure on others. Again, it ended fine. I just don't like how neat and conveniently it wrapped up. A show that's all about having mixed emotions about heroes and villains, they chose the route of ending it with a clear hero and a clear villain. I just feel they could have done much better.
If Jesse doesn't play ball with Hank the girl he cared about doesn't get killed. A LOT of situations and circumstances changed as a result of that decision. Just watched the final episode this afternoon...Loved it.

I see what you're saying. Plus there's the consistent theme of Walt never using drugs for any reason at all.

Yep. Luckily, Gilligan didn't go this route. People expect some kind of ambiguous twist ending with everything now.

I agree, and despise the need for such endings. There is nothing intrinsically wrong with a twist ending, but it's also not necessary for something to be quality, and the expectation that it must be there reduces such endings to generic features of certain genres.

Yeah and an ending like that just wouldn't fit with the way the show had been written. The show was pretty straight forward and based in reality as much as it could have been. To my recollection, there were no dream sequences.

For instance, a show like Rescue Me was much more suited for a twist ending due to the nature of the show. Lots of dream sequences, and the main character already losing much of his grip on reality throughout the show.

Rescue Me spoiler
Spoiler!

I dunno, Badger came up with some pretty great Star Trek episode concepts when he got stoned with Skinny Pete that time.

Walt killing a room full of Nazis while Tuco'd up feels kind of shady, morality-wise.
