It seems silly to have Return of the Jedi and Return of the Sith as consecutive film titles.

I think I'll probably just read the entry on Wookiepedia. The Zahn writing just doesn't do it for me. Will probably try the books about the clones who become Vader's troops. That sounds pretty cool.

Zahn's original trilogy aside, in which he was greatly restrained story-wise because Lucas planned to explore the prequels at some point, Zahn is, IMO, the best EU author.

He's best when writing about his own characters. Jorj Car'Das is the single most interesting character in the EU, IMO, and his backstory is explained in later Zahn books. Talon Karde is also a cool character as well.

In most EU stories, Luke, references to Anakin/Vader, Obi-Wan, Palpatine and basically any movie character are boring. There is so much constraint on those characters because Lucas didn't want anyone to contradict his future movies. So Han, Lando, Luke, Leia, et al appear boring and wooden, IMO.

Another of my EU favs was I, Jedi. Very good writing, cool story and very little interaction with the OT characters.

I completely agree on the movie characters being boring. I'll try some other Zahn without so much tie in to the movies.

Damn. That would have been so much cooler and allowed for so much more conflict and mystery for Luke. As it played out C'baoth's influence over Luke was sort of a weak, undeveloped side plot.

Oh, there was another completely boring and unnecessary trilogy in which Luke and Leia try to track down their mother and of course, never find her.

Duh. She's dead.

IMO, the EU is 90% garbage.

NYCC 2013: MEET THE INQUISITOR, THE NEW FACE OF EVIL IN STAR WARS REBELS

The next great villain from a galaxy far, far away is here. Fans attending Lucasfilm's Star Wars Rebels panel today at New York Comic Con got the world's first look at the Inquisitor, a black-clad, intimidating figure who will play a prominent role in the upcoming animated series. In a special video (available below) screened at the end of the panel, Star Wars Rebels executive producer Dave Filoni officially revealed the character, showing a sculpted maquette, design sketches, and disclosing that the Inquisitor is "tasked by Darth Vader to hunt down the remaining Jedi Knights."

The panel, hosted by Lucasfilm's Pablo Hidalgo, focused on the Empire and how it is central to the story of Star Wars Rebels. Hidalgo revealed that the series takes place about 14 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, a time in which the Emperor's rule is secure and the Empire is seeking to expand its power to Outer Rim territories. That leads Imperial forces to Lothal, a poor planet that initially welcomes the Empire on the promise of security and prosperity. It soon becomes obvious, however, that the Empire does not have Lothal's best interests at heart, as the Imperials exploit its people and begin recruiting young citizens to join TIE fighter and Stormtrooper academies, or to work in the Sienar Fleet Systems factory -- which builds TIE fighters -- in the planet's capital. Hidalgo showed new art focusing on Lothal, including the planet itself, a town, and alleyways, as well as an Empire recruitment poster.

The show is fully embracing the Star Wars legacy, taking direct inspiration from the original trilogy and its concept artist Ralph McQuarrie. Hidalgo displayed new Star Wars Rebels imagery and animation models for Stormtroopers, Star Destroyers, TIE fighters, and TIE fighter pilots, all of which fit seamlessly with classic Star Wars. Additionally, Hidalgo introduced several new Imperial vehicles and designs created for the series: the All Terrain Defense Pod (AT-DP), a ground attack walker based on an early Joe Johnston (the filmmaker who designed Boba Fett's armor and speeder bikes, and made other major contributions to Star Wars) illustration from 1979; the new AT-DP pilot, which blends designs of the classic AT-AT walker driver from Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back and the AT-ST walker pilot from Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi; the Imperial Troop Transport, which comes from an early Kenner toy that was actually not based on designs from the films; and the Imperial freighter, a reimagining of an Imperial-style craft designed for Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace by concept artist Doug Chiang, featuring a dock to transport TIE fighters from system to system.

If anything was made clear at today's panel, it's that the Empire is back -- thanks to Star Wars Rebels.

The Inquisitor is hired by Darth Vader to help hunt down remaining Jedi. I haven't heard that he's a Sith Lord but it wouldn't surprise if he were Vader's apprentice.

In the Clone Wars Series, Maul returns, so it's likely there are other failed or forgotten Sith apprentices in the galaxy.

IMO, that makes is much more interesting, as opposed to "Welp, all of the Sith Lords are gone now that the Emperer and Vader dead. Party time?".

And anything released on TV or Film is "canon", so the cartoon series are not EU.

I think you really weaken the badassery of Vader and the Emperor if there are other Sith introduced. The guy has a freakin' double bladed lightsaber so that's close enough for me.

They obviously have to kill him, right? So at least that might be interesting. I'll probably check it out.

I think it makes sense to have other Force users help the Empire and Vader hunt down and kill the remaining Jedi. That galaxy is far too large for Vader to kill everyone on his own.

The thing that most excites me about this series is that it's obviously going to be "Dark". It's not going to be a "fluff" series. I also imagine some epic lightsaber battles.

Who knows?

Simon Kinberg is the showrunner and writer. He's also a "Creative Consultant" on Episode VII, so maybe there's a tie-in and maybe not.

But I do expect an excellent series.

Is it a premium channel? Just asking, I have no idea. If so, that's odd because it's the only Disney channel to run commercial advertising.

Disney Junior and Disney channel only run promos and cross promotions, no true advertising.
