The PFL has figured out a way to have a clean, uniform look while still giving their fighters something to sell. They are basically telling them, "you can have two sponsors, their logos go here, otherwise this is your uniform"

If you are cornering a fighter, and no matter the stakes, even if its a championship fight in the main event, if your fighter looks at you and says "I'm done", you gotta stop it, right? Even if you convince them to answer the bell, their confidence is shot, there's no way they win.

Alaska's got a mid-week card again, and the UFC has maybe 2 and a half interesting fights scheduled.

Wednesday

11pm - (Fightpass) - AFC 140

Even by AFC's low standards, this is an absurdly bad card. There has to be something else you can do besides watch this.

Saturday

7pm TV - (5:30pm Fightpass/7pm FS2/9pm FS1) - UFC Fight Night, Maia vs Usman

This is a below average UFC card even for free TV. The last 3 fights are interesting, but before that.... there's really only 1 fight on the prelim that I care about. So, tune in maybe 10:30pm, or just have it on as background noise so you can choose to pay attention when it sounds like a fight is getting interesting.

2am Sunday - (Fightpass) - Pancrase 296

This is about average for Pancrase, but its in the middle of the night.

The bidding for UFC's TV rights is over. FOX is out, ESPN bought everything. It is $1.5B over 5 years, $300MM per year. For that, ESPN gets:
  • 10 full events on ESPN channels
  • 12 PPV prelim cards on ESPN channels
  • 20 events on ESPN+ (ESPN's new streaming service which will be $5/month in 2019)

Since the stole Ariel Helwani from SB Nation, and bought up all the shows, I hope they make a genuine push to put a well produced product out and not have Kevin Rooney try and do MMA shows.

FOX went with WWE instead of UFC. I wonder if any of these UFC shows will be shown on ABC.
