Jameis Winston suspended for half vs. Clemson over obscenity incident

Florida State announced Wednesday that starting quarterback Jameis Winston has been suspended for the first half of the No. 1 Seminoles' game vs. Clemson on Saturday for yelling an "offensive and vulgar" phrase in the student union on FSU's campus.
Deadspin collected a number of tweets from Florida State students who said they saw Winston standing on a table Tuesday "screaming" the phrase (one made popular by a series of recent viral hoax videos), which uses graphic sexual language. (Both links use the phrase and other R-rated language.)

"As the university's most visible ambassadors, student-athletes at Florida State are expected to uphold at all times high standards of integrity and behavior that reflect well upon themselves, their families, coaches, teammates, the Department of Athletics and Florida State University. Student-athletes are expected to act in a way that reflects dignity and respect for others," Florida State interim president Dr. Garnett Stokes and athletic director Stan Wilcox said in a joint statement.

"As a result of his comments yesterday, which were offensive and vulgar, Jameis Winston will undergo internal discipline and will be withheld from competition for the first half of the Clemson game.

"The University and athletics department will have no further comment on the matter."

On a teleconference Wednesday, Jimbo Fisher said his Heisman-winning quarterback's actions were "not a good decision," per Noles247.

"We have to keep learning, keep educating, and continue to make better decisions," Fisher added. "It is something that has to be addressed ... You can't make certain statements that are derogatory, inflammatory."

Fisher indicated he had spoken with Winston about the incident, saying "everything has been addressed and we are getting ready for the game."

Winston's off-the-field actions have been the target of increased scrutiny since the emergence of a December 2012 rape allegation against the redshirt sophomore late last year, one that has led to a current code of conduct investigation by the school. In April, Winston received a legal citation for shoplifting crab legs from a Tallahassee grocry store.

He was going to be suspended, not dismissed. But the complainant dropped the complaint so he's been reinstated.

Not that I think Jameis is some angel.

News report I saw here said the UF QB was dismissed in the headline days ago. Few hours ago, I just saw he was reinstated.

Like I said, I don't see how any of this impacts Winston.

This is more of a story about how the authorities acted. There looks to be a lot of shadiness in how this was handled by fsu and the police. NY times had an excellent story about how the Tallahassee police handled matters involving fsu players. Even if Winston is innocent and as of now, nothing suggests he actually did anything wrong, you would hope that authorities took these matters seriously and followed the right protocol.

Well, it has in the realm of public opinion.

I am not going to get into one of your long winded debates about something where I just posted a link to the long line of actions fsu took. When Winston's character flaws were already discussed as to what they are. Been there done that. Good bye.

As usual, you walk in here with your own biases and shut out anything that says anything to the contrary.

I don't know why you're bringing up Winston to me since I've already said I don't think what he did has any bearing, and that the facts don't point to any wrongdoing on his part. But if you want to talk about character... yeah, the guy's character problems are VERY real.

I posted a response to the actions FSU took. FSU claims they didn't file a title IX investigation because the police didn't file charges. FSU is still required to file it. So FSU claims the reason they didn't move forward was because the witness wasn't cooperating and refused contact. So again, like I said, the decision will probably be based on that. I'm not even saying which way it will go. I'm merely saying that if the accuser can prove that she was willing to provide input and FSU ignored it, they are going to be in some trouble.

Or are you trying to imply that FSU is 100% without a doubt truthful about the letter they wrote, as if they don't have motivation to embellish the truth. Not saying they did, but to act as if that's a statement of fact is naive.
