A false statement is not defamatory unless it discredits the person to whom it refers. To describe a man as "honest" may not be true, but it is difficult to imagine a court deciding that the word had damaged his reputation.
Again, it discredits Jones for making the statement and it creates sympathy for the parents. So I fail to see how it harms their reputation, cause them to lose standing in their community or causes them to lose employment opportunities. Where are the damages here, as defined by the law and not our personal opinion about it.

Make them feel bad, perhaps—but that just makes people feel bad for them and wins them empathy. Different states have different standards for emotional distress. Florida is one state that doesn't even allow it on some things—if at all. But I am going by memory on that.

Frankly, I don't see the logic.

Death threats I think would qualify as harm.
Were they getting death threats? Is that a fact? And was it due to this?

It meets all of the other criteria. Unless you are a nutter that believes him (which in this case I don't think you are) why the beef?
No it doesn't. Media and journalism are protected too. I don't think you understand libel laws. I had to use a lawyer once for something similar.

The beef? Just disagree how some are applying libel laws without consideration for the First Amendment regarding journalism and media.
You don't seem to have a problem with it when it comes to Trump or others.
This reeks of politics and I wouldn't be surprised at who is funding the suit.

From what I can see this is more in reaction to what they have experienced by people intruding upon their lives, which would seem the perfect example of why we have defamation laws.
No it doesn't.

We know one lady in Florida was arrested for making death threats against one of the dead boy's father. That was one they caught. She acted based on the information in the very show they are claiming.

I need to see something on it for all material fact related to it. I don't see why anyone would do that to them though.

Pretty sure she was sentenced to 5 months for it and ordered to not be listening to Infowars in the future.

This guy is one of the plaintiffs, and from the sounds of it, I think there is a pretty solid case for harm....

Quote:
Pozner has moved half a dozen times since Noah’s death, always staying near Veronique and their daughters, and is moving again soon after our interview. Partly, this is because each move is a new start, “and I need that sometimes”, he says. But it is also because he has to keep ahead of the people who, for the past five years, have been sending him death threats, purely because his son was killed in Sandy Hook.

The week before our interview, a judge issued a warrant for the arrest of Lucy Richards. She is alleged to have sent messages to Pozner, including one that read: “Death is coming to you real soon and nothing you can do about it.” That was bad, Pozner agrees, but not necessarily the most unsettling. After all, others have put photos of his house on the web and reported him to child-protection services. “This is the world I deal with now,” says Pozner.

How ****ed in the head does one have to be to actually contact one of these parents and say some of the things in that article.

Pretty messed up isn't it.

This is an example of why I call TacoWrong the biggest piece of shit on CP.
I hope these parents burn Jones and Infowars down to the ground.

Hope he wins. Alex Jones is purposefully inflicting misery on these poor victims' families. Completely disgusting.
