Robert Redford In Talks To Star In ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’

Marvel Surprise: Robert Redford In Talks To Star In ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’

EXCLUSIVE: Here is a fun Marvel scoop. I’m hearing that Robert Redford is in discussions to join the cast of Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger, the sequel that brings Chris Evans back as the shield-carrying superhero. Redford is in talks to play a senior leadership role in S.H.I.E.L.D., the superhero collective run by Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury character. Joe and Anthony Russo are directing the film from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, whose Marvel script credits include Captain America: The First Avenger and the upcoming Thor: The Dark World. The sequel will be released by Disney April 4, 2014.

In between running his Sundance empire, Redford most recently starred in All Is Lost, the J.C. Chandor-scripted and directed survival tale. While Marvel was predictably mum as Kevin Feige’s unit always is on casting matters, Marvel characters have a tendency to show up in other superhero movies, and I believe that is likely to be on the menu for Redford. It will be somewhat ironic for the patriarch of independent cinema to become a regular in some of Hollywood’s biggest studio blockbusters. Redford’s repped by WME

I watched it yesterday actually.

It was really good but I'm not sure why it gets so much love on CP. CP talks about it as if it's an All-Timer.

That's because it is. If it's not the best all-around superhero movie of all time, it's at least in the top three.

Guardians of the Galaxy also gets a shit ton of love from this site. It was good but I didn't think it was worth near the praise it got from CP.

IMO, you have the Spider-Man flicks rated way too highly. And I don't know that I would even put Avengers 2 on the list at all.

im glad this is America, and we all have our own voices and ideas, but I thought The Dark Knight Rises was a hot mess. I mean, I walked out of the theatre thinking: nothing will touch The Dark Knight. I think i'm still mad at that movie......

Watched it last week. Way better than I thought it was going to be. It was better than most of these superhero movies. It was good but all time good?

All-timer for a comic book film, sure. It's like a throwback to 70's political thrillers. With Captain America.

Hell, seriously. Think about just that for a second. They've made Captain America into a viable film ip. Captain America. One of the silliest characters ever, despite what I think is a neat WW2 backstory. And made him central in a political thriller, of all things. I'm not sure I could think of a less likely direction for them to have gone, and they did a pretty great job of it, in my humble opinion.

I completely agree. I do think that a lot of credit has to go to Ed Brubaker who did a lot of writing for the comics, including the return of Bucky.

The Spider-Man films are unbearable to watch for me. First off, Tobey MaGuire is a twerpy schuck, Franco isn't believable and DaFoe was seriously overacting.

I'm on record as absolutely hating the Avengers and have even bothered to see Age of Ulton yet. Thor 2 was garbage, too. Because of the Avengers and Thor 2, I took a pass on Captain America 2 but bought on DVD and didn't even spring for Blu Ray because I expected to be disappointed.

Fortunately, it was excellent, which gave me enough faith to actually go to the theater to see Ant Man, which is my favorite Marvel movie to date, followed by GoG.

I think Dane and I are the only two people on earth who didn't love The Avengers. Though I didn't really hate it, either. It was just kind of there.

Which is mostly how I felt about age of ultron as well.

I haven't seen Age of Ultron, but I agree with you on Avengers. A completely mediocre movie. Didn't like love it, didn't hate it. Saw it once and don't have any desire to see it again.
