Andy Reid's football team

One of the most disturbing aspects of yesterday's series of disturbing events, to me, is that we now have Reid effectively running the team himself.

The word is that they will hire a GM, but Reid is clearly above the GM - past and future - in the pecking order. When the line was drawn, Hunt chose Reid.

To me this is never going to work.

CHunt has created a scheme where the head coach reports directly to the owner which undermines the role of the GM, fundamentally. Reid seems to clearly have been chosen over Dorsey after the relationship deteriorated and now in the search for the GM itself, we can expect that Reid will be a primary decision maker in who is hired, which subjugates the GM even further. Will it do the team good to have a yes-man at GM?

So now, what is going to be the practical difference between Reid's power play and his position in Philadelphia where he controlled everything?

Are we happy that Reid will be without Dorsey's moderating influence in the future?

Does this mean that Reid wanted Mahomes but not Dorsey, and that was a factor in the split? Should it comfort us, with Reid's history of drafting, developing, and selecting free agent QBs, including his hand-picked incumbent starter, Alex Smith?

I think everyone's alarm should be up right now. The Hunt family has a history of being too loyal to guys who weren't good enough in the past, and now Reid has basically been given the keys to the franchise. A guy who can't effectively run three time outs and two challenges.

This didn't end well in Philadelphia and, barring Mahomes becoming elite and being able to turn this goat **** into gasoline, I don't think this is going to end well either.

He'll be out of work this season of course, as everyone has already selected their staff and settled in for the upcoming season.
Beyond that, he'll get more offers than Reid shoves fries down his gullet as the regular season begins to close and the teams that are getting ready to clean house start making the phone calls.
I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't already having a dialogue with several different teams.
Who exactly will hire him? Shit, the question you SHOULD be asking is; where does he want to go?

Second, QB, which isn't entirely his fault. Give him Brady, Rape, Manning, etc. and Andy has multiple SB titles.

He can fix one of his problems, which is reeruningly easy to fix, but probably won't.

The other is nearly impossible to fix, and before everyone goes Mahomes crazy, remember that the odds are against us. I am happy that Mahomes is here, though, because is shows a dramatic change in approach.
The thing is, over two decades, he hasn't fixed any of that. He continues to do all the same things and make all the same mistakes. When was the last time you saw Belichick pull that nonsense that Reid did against Tennessee and Tampa last year?

Being good enough to make playoff appearances in many/most seasons, but he's not in the class of the league's great coaches. If he were, he wouldn't have a losing record in the postseason.

Drafting a QB high is also great, but when has Reid ever developed a QB? You could only even begin to say McNabb, although he came into the league basically ready to play. No other QB he's drafted, and he's drafted a number of them, have worked out or developed into a quality starter. And he hand-picked Alex Smith given the keys to a new franchise and a clean slate, someone who is obviously not championship caliber either.

Of course we all hope that PM turns out, and if he does then we will all be happy, but Andy Reid being some QB guru just isn't the case.

He won't get another GM gig right now. Nobody is going to can their guy to hire him in June. 4 years and fired is not a good thing on his resume. I love his player evaluation, we never had better but that's not what a GM does. Most GMs are not scouts.

Don't care. Popgun boy blew those games. This Chiefs roster probably loses 0-2 games with a guy like Brady.

Example - the red zone pick against Tampa. Play executed the way it was drawn. Lousy play call.

First, Reid is right. Lousy call. Lousy call, because it was a predetermined read that relied upon Bucs safety Chris Conte falling for a play-action fake, and Conte did not fall for the play-action fake. The Bucs had consistent problems covering Travis Kelce, whose combination of agility and strength becomes more effective near the goal line, but the call Reid made meant Smith never looked that direction.

Andy Reid: Eagles Coach is Smart, but also Stubborn, Arrogant, and Dumb
Oct 7, 2011
Dave Stoessel

Andy Reid

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid is a smart man, but man, he can be stubborn, arrogant and dumb at the same time. Its a baffling mix that leaves Eagles fans expecting success and failure simultaneously.

Reid has been successful while unsuccessful at the same time. He’s the man with a master plan yet he cannot game plan. He has great vision in that he can see the big picture, but he is blind to some smaller, yet important details.

He’s brought the Eagles their greatest achievements and at the same time, their greatest failures. He’s masterfully overcome controversy throughout his career only to be the cause of it at other times.

Andy Reid has been the ultimate tease of a certain male appendage when it comes to giving Eagles fans a Super Bowl championship. So close, but yet so far away.

That’s the position we as Eagles fans find ourselves when it comes to the subject of Andy Reid. To say he is a good coach is almost paradoxical in nature.

Simply put, Andy Reid is frustrating. But why?

It’s because he’s been so successful but cannot reach the pinnacle of the NFL. Eagles fans have grown to expect to compete for a Super Bowl in just about every year nowadays.

Much of that is due to Andy Reid and his track record of making the playoffs. Yet, every year the Eagles come up short for one reason or another.

We all know most of his flaws, but I’m here to categorize them for you. Yes, Andy Reid is a smart man. However, he has shown things over the years…and this year…that are stubborn, arrogant and just plain dumb."

Lousy play call my ass. Alex screwed up or it wouldn't have been picked. Defenses make plays sometimes or the QB screws it up.

Did you not read the quote at all?

Quote:

Smith executed the play exactly as the play is designed. It's a blind timing throw.

This was on a drive where a field goal would allow the Chiefs to take the lead and in all probability win the game. Tampa had not scored a touchdown all afternoon. Reid called a play that essentially gambles a turnover for a touchdown, on 2nd down, when we only needed a field goal.

More than any other play, that play told the story of the 2016 season.
