The Motorcycle Discussion Thread

I figure there are some motorcycle guys/gals on CP, so I thought we could have a place to talk all things Motorcycles.

Tire Mount and Balance Prices (as of 10/29/16)

Prices based on if you remove the wheels yourself and bring the wheels and new tires with you:

Cycle Gear - $35 per wheel if you buy tires from them. $58 per wheel if you buy tires elsewhere
Rawhide - $65 per wheel (assuming it would be the same at other HD dealers. they book it at 1/2 hr per wheel)
C R Cycle Tires (DeSoto) - $30 per wheel

Cheapest I've found my Michelin Commander II's. Seem like they have good prices on other brands too.
http://www.jakewilson.com - Free 3 day shipping on orders over $75

Depending on what may be going on at the time, I might be able to meet up.

wait... you want us to go to.... Missouri to ride?

Come on MoMo guys!
What's been happening?

This winter was a rebuild year on my Triumph. I was having Hot Start Issues with my Tiger that all pointed to the Starter. New Starters are pricey starting at $460. I could get a rebuild brush kit and armature set for $100 but I found a used starter at $95 with low miles so I bought that. Never in my life has putting in a starter been so difficult. The old starter was just trashed.
Being that I had to take the Gas Tank and Throttle Bodies off to replace the starter any way, I did the Valve check and replaced the Air Filter.
Seeing that I had 36K on the bike I decided to replace the Drive Train, Front and Rear Sprockets and Chain. I had a 16 tooth front sprocket and on the new went down to a 15 for more spunk and better wheelies.
Lastly I changed up the oil and flushed the coolant.
All ready to ride...and even got a new Helmet...matches my bike.
Pretty exited for the year.

I found a quarter sized transmission fluid leak under my bike.
was fine all winter, then about a month ago I fired it up and let it come up to temp etc, then put it back away. Next day I go out and there's a little spot of Bruce Jenner fluid on the ground. and the underneath of the frame etc was all wet. Felt like it was coming from the transmission/clutch cable .

reading online, sounds like a fairly common issue is some sort of bug/critter (like a mud dobber) to make it's home in the transmission vent tube. The tube gets clogged, can't vent, so the pressure tries to escape via the o-ring where the clutch cable enters the transmission.

I haven't checked yet, but I hope this is the case. it makes sense. Hell, it sat all of last winter with no issues. Never had a drop of any fluid leak from that bike. Getting transmission cover off, is typical of HD.....gotta take off the pipes (or at least loosen) so you can get to the bottom bolts of the transmission cover. Really don't want to have to mess with all that.

Would rather just clean out the vent tube if it's clogged, clean up the bottom of the bike, etc, and be done with it.

I've got quite a few rides in this year, but nothing worth clamoring about. I'm just getting ready to head out on a poker run around the Crazy Mountains today. I'm not looking forward to the heat.

I’m reevaluating if I even want to keep my bike. It’s for sale now, been up since may or so (buying a house, and don’t have time to ride etc ), but to make way for another one when I get a house. But man, since being on blood thinners, I’m nervous. Hell, I cut my finger on the 4Th of July cutting mushrooms, and yesterday at work I bumped the cut and it bleed for a good hour or so. Day I cut it, it bled for probably 2 hours.

Considering just moving on, and maybe getting a fun second car to enjoy with the wife on weekends etc. right now, she doesn’t ride hardly at all with me.

Between the blood thinners, and the fact three people I’ve known have died Riding this year....I dunno. Might be nearing “that time” for ol Dayze. We’ll see.

Since picking up that zx14 I have put 30k on it. Picking it up today with full tune up, new tires and air horn.

I don't know if I can ever stop riding. You have atrial fib?

I normally put on 20,000 miles a year from March till around October. I have went 3,000 this year. Between all the kids and their activities and my shit and buying my old truck to restore I haven’t had time to do anything else

I have also thought about selling and just getting back in later in life and put the money into my truck. I have a feeling that if I sell I will turn around and buy another bike, so I might as well keep the Road King.

On a positive note I have got to ride a few different bikes this year that made it tough not to go buy a new bike. The new Goldwing was one and I love that bike, hate they made the storage capacity smaller but it’s a lot of fun to ride

I have a gene mutation in my blood that makes me very prone to clotting. Discovered a few years back when my gall bladder went tits up and they found three clots in my lungs.

Dunno, just kicking around the idea. Getting older, and getting re-established after losing a house in 08 and job loss, and tons of debt. Now debt free, with a nice chunk in savings, makes me look at things a little different.

A nice sounding and good looking car could satisfy my urges to have something cool to play with and enjoy. And, be able to enjoy with the wife. Not like a $40k car or anything. More like a $8-14k car that looks good, sounds goood, fun to drive etc as a second car /drive in the weekends in good weather etc.

Shit man. Sorry to hear.

One of my riding buddies hit a car that ran a stop sign, ejected from his bike, and run over by the car behind him. He’s in a wheelchair now, assisted living.
So far this year, I’ve seen on Facebook /riding groups several people go down, and a few have died. Lots of distracted driving now, more than ever in my gut feeling, just makes me on edge most of the time riding in the street.

Sucks man.
