What if's of the season...

1. Travis Kelce is the breakout tight end of the year.

2. Mike Catapono and Dee Ford prove to be monsters, perhaps combining for 15 sacks.

3. Abdullah or Commings play even just a little better than Kendrick Lewis.

4. D-Bowe plays like he did vs. Indy, more times than not.

5. Cooper plays like he did last year, and improves vs. Manning. (can't be worse..)

6. Smith/Jamaal/DJ/Houston/Hali/Berry/Poe stay healthy and good.

7. DAT replaces DMC, and then some.

8. The interior OL impresses. (I like Fulton)

9. Bailey/Walker get push that T-Jax never could.

10. and finally, Fisher steps up.

Obviously not all of these are going to occur, but if most or even half do... what should we expect this season? I just want a damn playoff win. The FO is making the team they want, lets see it work for once.

You know Sutton's scheme in combination with the contract is what let Flowers land in America's Finest City.

Odd timing though...

SNR = "Sunny" N' "Rape"
Why is it a sorry state of affairs even if Gaines were taken in the 2nd? He's a goddamn rookie. At least until he proves otherwise, his ass is going to be out there on special teams and on the bench. Where it belongs.

And Sutton's scheme didn't contribute to Flowers constantly nursing vagina bruises the past two seasons. You can have fun trying to re-create whatever magic it was that Herm, Pendergast, and Romeo had on Flowers, but I'm telling you right now that he's not going to be a magic answer to any CB problems you might be having. He'll play well for you, but I guarantee that if you had to deal with his contract amidst a sea of necessary extensions the next two seasons, you'd be saying, "Get this guy off my team" as well.

In any case, if he's not a fit for the scheme and is playing on a bloated contract, why the hell should he be considered a "loss"?

I saw the wave of Charger fans wailing and crying their eyes out when the team let go of Cromartie. It consisted of Buck and whatever fat piece of ass he was porking at the time. Most Charger fans if I recall were glad to be moving on to not overpay him.

If we hit gold then Dorsey looks like a stud but he sure as hell isn't playing the odds. A team that just made the playoffs shouldn't have this many questions about their team

QB - Same unless a young guy explodes out of nowhere
Oline - not as good as last year
TE - same, weren't good enough last year
WRs - basically the same and they weren't good enough last year

Dline - significant improvement in depth made
LBs - basically the same
Corners - worse, weren't good enough last year
safeties - hopefully a little better and should help

so on paper we are the same or worse everywhere except DLine, maybe safety

yes, anything can happen but it doesn't look good

Gadzooks, you realize Tamba is 32 after this coming season right? And you realize Flowers is always having injury knacks and isn't worth top 5 CB money right?

I don't think these guys were drafted to replace players for money. They were drafted bc the players they are replacing are either nearing the end of their career or simply didn't fit the system and weren't with huge money.

Oh, and that cap space they have is for players who deserve it more, like Justin Houston, so I guess yes it could be argued they we're let/ will be let go for money.

How does that not make sense? Is this a bad strategy?

I believe we're arguing the same points from different perspectives on Flowers. To quote myself: "You know Sutton's scheme in combination with the contract is what let Flowers land in America's Finest City". I don't consider Flowers a loss for the Chiefs only a gain for the Chargers.

As far as the Gaines comment - Typically, when a team uses a 2nd on a player in a position that lacks depth, they would hope that the player would come in and compete for a starting spot. So, yeah, since Gaines was a 3rd you'd expect he's couple of seasons away.

I think we can both agree that the Chiefs are not going to be better next season and even a little worse due to the loss of Albert, loss of O-Line depth and lack of improvement at WR and S.

I think a draft strategy that focuses on replacing pending big money UFAs is an unusual approach.
-Draft Fisher 1st overall in preparation of replacing Albert
-Draft Dee Ford in the 1st to sit in waiting to replace Hali
-IMO - they drafted Gaines because they knew they needed more depth once they released Flowers

Does a team get better with this approach? I doubt it...

Obviously, every pick's a gamble but BPA has shown to be very effective. Even maneuvering to get a BPA in a position of need seems reasonable.

But to stand pat and pick players based on who you plan to replace... It's odd.

I found the Dee Ford pick to be a reach, but hey, heaven forbid they only have one premier pass rusher, WR and Safety be damned.

Which is what I've been saying that the Chiefs are a worse team because now our entire left flank of the offensive line is a pile of poo.

However, KC doesn't lack CB depth. We've got plenty of it. In fact, I'd argue that we're the deepest team in the division at CB. Dorsey obviously felt the same way, because Flowers' overpaid ass would have prevented someone like Parker from sticking around.

Our STARTERS are very mediocre and potentially putrid. Sean Smith isn't a #1, and we're counting on a lot to have Marcus Cooper get to the level ability we need him at. But we're fine for depth. Besides, we played so much nickel last year that we were pretty much starting Cooper and Smith for most of games as Flowers would shift inside. All we're doing now is using Cooper in non-nickel situations instead.
