That's the first thing I thought when I saw the title of this ridiculous thread. The guy is worse than Matt Cassel for Christ's sake.

The funny part is that when Viking fans got Cassel, they were like, "Sweet, he's gotta be better than Ponder at least, right? And you never know. He looked good with New England, and then was with that awful KC team. Maybe a change of scenery is all he needs."
And then we'd say, "You reeruns don't ****ing know," and they'd say, "No, YOU don't know how bad Ponder is." For Vikings fans, Ponder is their Cassel. And now here we are, asking about their Matt Cassel saying, "Hey, maybe he just needs to get out of Minnesota in order to be good." |

Is Josh Freeman available ?
I think Reid can work his 'magic'

With Minnesota, Cassel completed 59.7% of his passes for 6.87 ypa with 14 TDs and 13 Ints. With Minnesota, Ponder completed 59.8% of his passes for 6.30 ypa with 38 TDs and 36 Ints. Those lines look eerily similar. I might agree that the Chiefs may be better off not sniffing that direction, but I think the claims of Ponder is worse than Cassel or is worse than Geno Smith are unwarranted. Clearly the Planet feels he's not good enough and shouldn't be considered, but that shouldn't be dependent upon Cassel nor Geno Smith. And yes, sometimes players, including QBs, are put in bad situations at the beginning of their careers. Ponder, coming out, was over-drafted and wasn't ready. I also wonder if he received adequate coaching in Minnesota. You're talking having had a QBs coach that never did anything with anybody (Craig Johnson) and a similarly bad offensive coordinator in Musgraves who's only claim to fame might be the fact that he coached under George Seifert. My major concerns over bringing in QB projects is whether or not Reid is really that much of a QBs coach. And my other worry is that Matt Nagy isn't much of a QBs coach having no real experience before arriving in KC. The Chiefs brought in a worse QB than Ponder in my opinion in Terrelle Pryor. |

The more tires you kick, the more they just look like tires.
Here's my thoughts though on this... Option 1. Retain Chase Daniel as your overpriced backup at 4.8 million, when he could save you 3.8 million in a year you desperately need cap space to re-sign really good players like Houston and Hudson. The other QBs on the roster don't matter much because they'll likely never see the field. Option 2. Assuming you cut Chase, you roll with the best two of Aaron Murray, Tyler Bray, and that turd Terrelle Pryor, and hope for the best. Option 3. Assuming you cut Chase, you add yet another arm in Ponder to the camp roster and see if he can turn it around and roll with your best of Ponder, Murray, Bray, and Pryor. I'm against option 1. I'm all for more options than #2. I'd be really thrilled if KC drafted another QB, but I'm of the opinion that competition never hurts. I don't mind kicking tires on QBs that have only had 1 shot in the NFL, and if you gotta cut him, no big deal. |
