Had the fortune of spending the day with Marty Schottenheimer
Some of you have seen the film for Marty that I was a part of that featured 17 of Marty's former players from KC, Cleveland, SD sharing memories and offering well-wishes. Last week, my friend and co-producer went out to NC to meet the Schottenheimer's and show the the film in person. It was unreal watching Marty react to these wonderful moments that he was a part of. Even though the Alzheimer's has taken away some of his memory, he can still recall a lot of his football-related life and that made us happy. His wife Pat is a saint and the day could not have gone any better. Here's a video of Marty reacting to watching our film:
https://youtu.be/Euh4UDef3_E And a few pics from the visit: We still have DVD copies and digital copies of the film available with a portion of all proceeds going to Alzheimer's research. http://www.martyfilmkc.com/ways-to-watch.html Last edited by Stargazer; 08-20-2018 at 01:42 PM.. |

When my trusted physician of 20 years asked me "what is a ketone?" So, if I'm not a complete reerun I can actually help myself better than you can in even 1 area? If I can suggest anything it would be to go to your doctor when you are not healthy. Don't ask them how to be healthy...

Thanks so much for the post! I can not lie about it - I LOVED Marty in his time with the Chiefs. I had the pleasure of meeting him and Carl Peterson (strictly by chance) at a Steak and Shake in Independence MO when they FIRST came to town.
He brought the Chiefs back to respectability the day he took the team over and the late 80s and 90s were some of the best times of my life in terms of watching the team. Wonderful man and coach. It's a damned shame about his disease. I wish him nothing but the best. Thanks Marty!! |

And since this is the thread:
I adore Marty. I won't pretend that I don't - I do. It absolutely f'ing killed me when we failed, EVERY ****ING YEAR, in the playoffs. I was born and raised Catholic. If you want it more you will win. If you don't win you just don't want it more. To this day I can't defend Catholicism but I can defend that mentality. Find the flaw in that mantra. In the 90's freak talents like Okoye and and DT just palmed the back of my subconscious and told me if you want it enough go. There was no way in hell I'd ever compare to either of those two but I'd never give up. And I didn't. And I didn't make the NFL or anything close. I worked, studied hard, went to college, and I'm not rich but I'm able to help my kids. How much is enough? Enough.

Thanks for sharing. Loved Marty and that entire era.
Lots of great memories even though we ultimately failed. Still doesnt erase the good times and everything else he created IMO.

Up until Mahomes was drafted, the most exciting era of Chiefs football in my lifetime happened on Martys watch, those were heady days
He sure doesnt look like a man suffering from a debilitating disease, the brain is a funny thing... great stuff, thanks for sharing and I would love to see this one of these days |

I spent most of the 90's at arrowhead watching every game, it was exciting as hell I'll give him that, he knew how to put a show on the field. it sucks that alzheimers is doing this to him, I hope he is still well enough in dec to make it to arrowhead, now I only go to one game a year, maybe it will be that one. good luck marty

Thanks for that, Martyball did indeed put KC back on the national map. Those defenses were something that would always keep us in the game. I remember EVERY last 2 minutes of every game he coached. It was like 30 minutes of any other NFL game. ALWAYS came down to the wire.
I wish I could find stats on coaches who had the most last second wins/losses. I would think Marty would be #1. Sad to think such an amazing mind is being eaten by that retched disease. |

The Marty era was when I became a Chiefs fan. He will always be a part of my fandom. Class guy, hate to see anyone have to deal with this. He totally should have won a ring but this franchise is ****ing cursed! Bless up Marty, and thank you for all you gave to this team!

It was a life-changing experience for both Noah and I as neither one of us would be the fans we are or making sports films today if not for Marty and the Chiefs of the 90's. You could just see his eyes light up when we mentioned specific players and when we watched the film together. Magical day for sure.

What part of NC does he live in? We are looking to move that way and wouldn't mind running into him sometime.
