Christopher Nolan's next: 'Interstellar'

Script was written by his brother, and Spielberg was previously attached.

The script is based on scientific theories developed by a Kip Thorne, a theoretical physicist, a gravitational physicist and astrophysicist at Caltech.

The script for Interstellar was written by Jonathan Nolan, Chris' brother, who worked on The Dark Knight Rises and The Dark Knight, as well as Prestige. Jonathan Nolan (known as Jonah) also has a "story by" credit for Memento, Chris Nolan’s breakout movie.

Steven Spielberg was previously attached to direct Interstellar and produce with Lynda Obst. It is unclear if Spielberg will remain involved, especially considering the director's planned next movie, Robopocalypse, was delayed indefinitely on Wednesday.

Definitely TCL Chinese Theatre. Nolan himself spent the last month optimizing it.

What?

It's not a Sound Stage. No one can sit there and make notes expecting them to translate to a WB soundstage, let alone, every other movie theater in the world.

I mean he had them making adjustments so it was optimized in that particular theater.

Yeah, that's impossible.

Engineers can't "guess" what Nolan is hearing in the Chinese Theater, then translate that to a Warner Brothers's soundstage that's completely different in size, treatment and speakers.

Complete nonsense.

Saw it Tues night. Definitely had sound issues. It was hard to hear the dialog at various points. Over all its a decent movie but I don't think I would classify it as spectacular. I was really looking forward to it because I'm such a science fiction nerd but like Promethius.....it was a let down. It has its moments but didn't quite do it for me.

So, the Chinese Theater now has a 84 channel Harrison console that's perfectly situated for a 7.1 surround mix?

Dude, puhleeeeeeeeeeeese.

All I know is they have renovated it to meet IMAX standards for audio with custom built speakers and improved acoustics. It's also one of three theaters in LA to have the 15 perf 70mm projectors, which Nolan has been championing. (Arclight Hollywood is another one, but I've read some criticisms of how the screen handles it. Don't know if that's legit.) He also was personally at the theater and watched it about a dozen times from all different vantage points in the theater. I'm not going to pretend to have a fraction of your sound engineering expertise, but IMAX as a company and Nolan consider this the flagship of IMAX moviegoing in Los Angeles. Good enough for me.

He may have watched it at the CT to get an idea how it would translate, much how music producers and artists listen to mixes in the car, iPods, cellphones, etc. before mastering.

But to suggest that the film was actually mixed at the CT is incorrect.

Just to be clear, I'm not attempting to insult you or what you've heard, I'm just trying to clear up any misconceptions.

Peace, Brotha.

Gotcha, but I'm not suggesting he mixed anything there. Just that he offered his input on the calibration of the sound system in the theater. Just to be clear.

No offense taken.

Aside from having figured out exactly where they were going with it about 20 minutes into the movie, I enjoyed it.

Plot holes? Yes, it's a ****ing movie. Deal with it. It's about the characters, not the shoddy science.

Having seen it once, I probably won't ever see it again. Maybe I will. Kinda doubt it. It was too long, for sure. But it's worth watching, absolutely.

The characters spent a LOT of time debating their "shoddy science". It was a science fiction movie. The entire plot was built on the "shoddy science". I'm even OK with them playing fast and loose with the rules of time and space. Like you said, "it's a ****ing movie". What I'm not OK with is establishing that these characters are world class astrophysicists only to have them make a mistake so blatant that a guy that hasn't taken a science class since high school was floored by.

I have loved some of Nolan's work. He is a talented filmmaker and Batman Begins alone basically gives him a lifetime pass with me. But the guy breaks his own rules all over the place to contrive his dramatic scenarios. This one was probably his worst. I just wish I didn't have to suspend my logic, let alone my disbelief when it came to his last several films.

I enjoyed the film. It's visually impressive enough to recommend people see it in the theater, but it's plot keeps it from being great. That's all I'm saying.
