I said yes. I understand it sounds ridiculous. I would do it for this reason:
Geno contract: 2014: $633,164, 2015: $585,000 (+ $276,328 workout bonus), 2016: $675,000 (+ $414,491 workout bonus), That frees up $7 million (Alex contract) this yr. Chiefs have a strong run game and defense to allow geno to develop. Let him duke it out with Daniel, Bray, and anyone else the team brings in to camp. I realize its a gamble, but its also an opportunity to get a young guy for the longterm on a cheap contract while plugging wholes at other positions with the freed up salary cap space. It will also make a difference in 2015 when Alex Smith becomes either a free agent or someone making big bucks. |

Wilson vs Alex shouldn't even be discussed. Wilson has surpassed Alex after only 2 years in the league.
Geno vs Alex is interesting since the Chiefs seem hell bent on ruining Alex's best years by having a dog shit D-coordinator and not upgrading the offensive talent. So I might take the Geno upside of the future over wasting away Alex's prime years like the team is doing now. |
