Fiscal Restraint

I wish someone in Congress had some....

I just want to be clear to every Republican/right-winger that has argued that Democrats/liberals are responsible for our ridiculous deficit and national debt -- the tax cut bill and the budget increase that just got through a Congress that Republicans control, with a Republican POTUS signing into law (presumably), clearly establishes that it's all just talk.

NEITHER PARTY gives a damn about the deficit or debt, and neither party can claim any moral high ground on the topic.

Which sucks for all Americans IMHO.

What's funny about this comment is Republicans can't cut a deficit in half, only expand it.

You are literally attacking Obama on something Republicans fail to do.

Nobody mentioned Bush.

That isn't evidence that tax cuts pay for themselves.

Stay on topic. Stop being stupid.

This...take care of the VA and the vets they serve first and foremost. If you have that kind of budget you should not still be operating with cardboard file records. If you give your son or daughter $100 for lunch and they come back for another $50 and can't tell you what they did with the initial outlay are you going to fork over an additional fifty?

Love how they are "Obamadeficits" now. Like we never had any before. Like he didn't inherit an economic mess and the standard economic thinking is to go (deeper, in our case) into the red to fix the mess.

Funny, it works EXACTLY the same way with Republicans. The only difference is WHAT they spend money on, and whether to lower taxes at the same time to (further) increase the deficit.

It may not all be reflected in the budget yet but they are foundational Trump campaign promises widely supported by his base. The same base that bitches every day about welfare threw a shit fit when government dared to mess with their entitlements, which are absolutely a major contributor to debt.

The drug war is a $50b expense that trickles down further to overcrowded prisons on the local and state level.

How are these not examples of issues that drive debt and massively increase scope of government? We're talking hundreds of billions in spend.

You are so obtuse. Bush cut taxes, revenues increased. Reagan cut taxes, revenues increased, Kennedy cut taxes, revenues increased.

Why did Obama keep the Bush tax cuts?

Further behind in terms of state of readiness. Many areas have been underfunded over the last 8 years.
We have a severe shortage of repair and replacement parts, equipment readiness, training. Our CEW structure and capabilities are in urgent need of investment and upgrade. Much more.
We can't take being the dominant military force in the world for granted, it can and will go away if we don't keep it up. There are adversaries working very hard to catch up to our tech through innovation and theft. The only way to stay ahead is to constantly invest in R&D and next gen equipment and concepts.
If you take a year or two off you can't just turn the switch back on and catch up any time soon.

We don't judge our military by the rest of the world's standards, we judge it against our own.

Do you really need someone to explain to you how stupid you sound right now? That an "adult" would make such a child argument is a little shocking.

Even ignoring the stupidity of your argument, it isn't even factual:

Quote:
Reagan raised taxes several times after 1981. His last budget showed that as of 1988, the aggregate, cumulative revenue loss from the 1981 tax cut was $264 billion and legislated tax increases brought about half of that back.
