NCAA Tournament Selection Thread

Are you excited to fill out a bracket tonight? I have seriously mixed feelings.

I don't know who's given me worse battered wife sports syndrome: Mizzou Basketball or Chiefs football.

Mizzou is expected to make the NCAA tournament for the first tine since 2013. Nice, but so what? In the last 30 years, Mizzou ALWAYS flames out flamboyantly, usually in its first game - including some horrendous losses to a #11, #13, #14 and #15 seed. And when they do make it far, they've either had to forfeit the season or they get Tyus Edney'ed.

It's hard to be this bad in the first round, but check out this history of futility:

1986: Lost #6 UAB 64-66
1987: Lost #13 Xavier 69-70
1988: Lost #11 Rhode Island 80-87
1990: Lost #14 Northern Iowa 71-74
1993: Lost #7 Temple 61-75
1999: Lost #9 New Mexico 59-61
2000: Lost #9 North Carolina 84-70
2011: Lost #6 Cincinnati 63-78
2012: Lost #15 Norfolk State 84-86
2013: Lost to #8 Colorado State 72-84

Oh and if that isn't bad enough, Mizzou also has a history of flame out in the NIT. They've only won two NIT games in team history. So they don't even have NIT success working for them!

Good luck to KSU Wildcats and Wichita State Shockers.

KU doesn't need any luck. Just ask their fans

It's easy to laugh at a "16 seed" until the game actually starts and you see what the team actually is.

Where are you getting 'worst #1 seed in years'.... especially when Xavier looks worse just this year?
You're right, Xavier actually is worse this year. The rare year where we have two teams who aren't even close to what usually qualifies as a #1 seed in this tournament.

So what is the deal with Penn? They beat Harvard, who was the #1 in the Ivy tournament.

Is it just that Harvard would have had a higher seed in the tournament had they beaten Penn? Why is Penn so special as a 16? Are they just a hot team, or is this legitimate based on stuff they've done all year?

Penn was better than Harvard this year, so it's safe to assume Harvard would have also been a 16 had they won yesterday. Why Penn was a 16 when there were at least 5-6 teams worse than them with better seeds, though, I'm not sure.

Is KC Connection really flapping his vagina lips lamenting the first round matchup for KU? A 16 seed has never beaten a 1 seed and that isn’t going to change this year.

KU is not the worst # 1.

Seriously, IMHO, They can beat any of the # 1 or for that matter, any team.

BTA, can lose to any team.

Well, if I started worrying every time you said KU fans should worry, I'd be a nervous wreck all winter.

A 16 will eventually win one and I'm sure Penn is capable of doing it, considering Norfolk State did at a really bad 15... but, as much as I'd hate for KU to be the first, I'm not going to worry about what kenpom says or about Self's ability to prepare for several days.

If they're down multiple possessions with 2 seconds left, then I'll start to worry.

A 16 will eventually win, especially when they are more the quality of a 14 seed and playing an overseeded #1 and their defensive style limits that overseeded #1's primary source of offense.

If this isn't a close game in the 2nd half, I'd be shocked.

Unfortunately just because something hasn't happened doesn't mean it will never. Statistically, we're actually well past due for one of these to go down and this particular matchup (overseeded #1 versus underseeded #16 with a matchup advantage) looks to be the best opportunity in many years for it to happen.

This is an easy bracket so KU should blow it. They always do.
