Star Trek Continues

Have any of you watched this? It's a fan-made series that carries on where the original series left off, only it is of extremely high quality - the episodes capture the look and feel of TOS pretty much dead on. Does take some getting used to new people in the established roles, and admittedly some of the performances are a bit off, but you get over it quickly. Vic Mignogna, who plays Kirk and is the driving force behind the show, certainly looks the part, but doesn't ape Shatner's staggered line delivery. James Doohan's son, Chris, plays Scotty brilliantly. Grant Imahara of Mythbusters plays Sulu.

There are also many old stars of Star Trek and other science fiction series who have made guest appearances. The latest episode features John de Lancie (Q from TNG) and Anne Lockhart (Sheba from the original Battlestar Galactica. Other guest starts have included Jamie Bamber (Apollo from the new BG), Lou Ferrigno, Erin Gray of Buck Rogers, and Michael Forest, who reprises his role as the aged god Apollo from the TOS episode Who Mourns for Adonis.

This is a link to the site where you can watch all the episodes: http://startrekcontinues.com/episodes.html

There are nine episodes currently available, with two more coming. Unfortunately that will be it. After the debacle of Axanar, Paramount shut them down.

Overall these are very good. A couple are exceptional, a couple a bit lame, and they can be a bit preachy, but that's pretty much in keeping with the original as well. If you like the original series, I recommend them highly. And they're made by people who clearly love and understand what Star Trek is all about, unlike the scumbags at CBS attempting to shove Discovery down our throats.

Yes, they are pretty awesome. CBS should just invest in them and put their episodes on the air.

I have never even heard of this and I already like it more than Discovery.

But then my feeling is that I could raid the local elementary school for a cast, costuming, special effects, writing/directing, and production to get a better show than Discovery.

Will check it out. That shit that happened to Axanar still royally pisses me off.

And the crap that they're doing with Discovery shows the franchise has ZERO direction and zero ideas. Axanar basically gave them the template of what to do (Klingon War), except they managed to captivate and draw people in to the story or what it was to become.

Discovery is going to suck balls.

Definitely one of the more well done fan flicks, but I can't stand the actors. Absolutely some of the most annoying impersonations I have ever seen.

They mostly grew on me, but like all fan endeavors, I think deep pockets will often get people roles they wouldn't get otherwise. Imahara in particular isn't very good, which is surprising since he's spent years on a TV show. The guy who plays Chekov isn't anything to write home about, either.

I couldn't get past the first two minutes of episode 1. Somebody linked a while back and I tried. Just tried again. That cowboy and his gun were perfectly cheesy TOS (even though whoever played him was meh), but then Krik, Scotty, and Spock all threw me so far out I couldn't get into it. May try and watch the full episode sometime though, as I've been jonesin' for some quality Trek since the reboot series crashed my expectations for anything reboot.

Watched a few minutes of the opening episode. Very well made. I was surprised. Like how they were able to emulate the feel and cheese of the original 60s episodes

The guy playing Bones annoyed me though.

A different guy plays McCoy in the later episodes. He's much better. Doesn't quite capture the essence of Kelley quite as well as Karl Urban does, but he's pretty good.

Watched the final episode last night. They definitely went out with a bang. Finally had the space battles that had been missing from earlier episodes (which were fairly well done) and also tied up the Original Series era and even provided a link to the movie era.

I will miss this show a lot.
