RX 480 and i5 6400 would be a good combo.
You could run games at high-ultra at 1080p easy. If that's still too high; gtx 1050 and i3 6100 could play pretty much anything. |

edit: His has i5 6500 in it. I don't know enough to say how big a difference in performance would be, but NWO may know more.

I have a 6500 too. The price difference between the 6400 and 6500 is about 25 bucks. I would use that 25 bucks to buy an OC gpu. |

NO, different tiers of processors. like the bmw 3 5 and 7 series. lol Best bang for yhour buck for budget gaming is the I5. I recently bought the I5 7600k and its really good if you arent looking to be a streamer.
Just get somtehing like I5, a 1070-1060 graphics card and 16mb of ram and you are pretty much good to go. Newegg or Amazon will have combo deals on this kind of thing. In order to make a pc that runs games decently you re going to have to spend a few bucks. One thing i learned is its not worth skimping out on certain things especially if you are going to get into shooting games. |

I want to say it was Tom's hardware that did a really good in depth comparison between an i3, i5, and i7, and found the differences are pretty negligible between processors. In fact, performance was worse on the i7 than i5 in some cases, and that an i3 is really good value for the money, especially if you are going with a low end graphics card, you'll find the bottleneck is the graphics card, not the processor.

Save some money by finding some of those parts used if you are patient. Last edited by kcpasco; 03-31-2017 at 05:32 PM.. |

Even 16gb is overkill for gaming. And if you are looking for a low-end budget build gaming pc then 16gb is going to be a ridiculous price for the overall cost of the computer.

That depends on how long you want to keep it and put stuff on it.

I'm thinking about doing this too since my computer crapped out on me the other day. But like you, I have never built one before.
I was wondering if I could salvage any parts from the old one. It has 8gb ddr3, a Radeon HD 5670 graph. card.
