Alex Smith

How do you feel about him as your QB in this situation?

And lost, with weapons and a defense that 25 of 32 starting QBs in the league, including Smith would've won with, and Tebow was still in the league then.

I really didn't think Alex's play was all that bad tonight and was better than the score reflected. He threw some dandy passes when he got any kind of time behind the deficient offensive line.

Alex ended up with a passer rating 10 points higher than Manning, 95.0 for Alex to 85.3 for Manning. Peyton had the offensive line, the RB and all the weapons.

I don't get to see many Chiefs games and as a 49ers fan I can't say I really want to, but watching this game, it seemed Andy's play calling was much worse than Alex's play and Alex's play was really hurt by a lousy offensive line.

I know what you have in Alex and he doesn't push the ball down field or throw to his WRs much or often, but he is a master of the RB/TE short passing dink and dunk and you can easliy win with that if you have a decent defense.

You guys just ran into a buzz saw in Denver pretty much crushing everybody they've faced this year losing only to Seattle (#1 D), Patriots (red hot offense), and the Rams (trap game or just down game for Broncos).

Personnel wise, you still seem 3-4 years from serious AFC super bowl contention.

This loss wasn't on Alex. Not by a long shot. Not from what I could see.

Our first possession featured three straight passes then a punt.

Then, after we converted that 4th down and put some points on the board you'd think Reid would let Jamaal get a few more stabs at it.. Nope.

No QB would have been effective behind that porous offensive line tonight. Alex Smith is a good QB and a master of the short passing game when he has adequte pass protection. I'm not talking elite pass protection like Romo - just average. His pass protection was WELL below average tonight. If that has been typical this season, then no wonder your offense is so hamstrung.

According to Football Outsiders, the Chiefs offensive line was ranked #22 in the league going into tonight's game. That's poor. Not as poor as the 49ers 30th ranked pass protection, but poor.

KC is 10th in run blocking but only 22nd in pass protection. Keep running the ball.

You can't blame Alex if he has little to no time to throw. I did not see a sack I would blame him for. Every sack was on the Offensive line being offensive.

The only reason the Chiefs offensive line isn't dead last in pass protection by a wide margin is the fact that Reid and Smith have been hiding their deficiencies all year with short passing game and getting the ball out as fast as anyone in the league. The offensive line is beyond suck. I was pleasantly surprised when it appeared that they were able to still be effective, but it has been blatently obvious the last several weeks beginning with the Bills. Charles can't run through it, Smith doesn't even have time for short passing anymore behind it. It's just a complete dumpster fire.

Why did the Chiefs pick Dee Ford again? Is he still on the team?

Alex Smith cannot and refuses to show defenses that he can consistently hit a hot route so defenses load the box and usually play with one deep safety.

I figured I'd jump on this morning and see the OL taking the heat for not being able to block all the extra guys Denver was bringing in the first half. This place doesn't disappoint.

Most good QB's BEG to get blitzed - ours can't seem to take advantage when the other team brings extras.

Blitzing is supposed to be risky. How would a defense get burned blitzing KC?

Exactly.

One of the talking heads made a comment about stacking the box and bringing heat when you don't respect the QB.

For all the claims about how "smart" Alex is, I rarely see him read the blitz or get out of bad play calls.

Exactly correct warpath. I cannot remember any time this season that Smith hit a hot route on a blitz.

Smith is a yes man. He doesn't have time to worry about reading a jail break or seeing the defense has this play beat and checking out of it. He just wants to be told what to do and when to do it.

It's actually kind of funny, in a sad way, how a team can line up 8 in the box and not even disguise the fact that they are all coming and this ****er still takes a 7 step drop.

Definitely not good enough to excel with this shit OL and lack of run defense.

That's sure enough true.. but that would also be true of 29 other currently starting QBs.

The front office expected this season to be a wash and then hit its stride going into 2015 when we get more picks and we can cut dead weight to free up cap space. I don't expect a ton from this team this year because after completely reworking the OL and the secondary, I am surprised they are 7-5. HOWEVER if they don't produce in Reid/Dorsey/Smiths third year, then we need to walk away and find something better. By succeed I mean win a ****ing playoff game and do what you were brought in and paid handsomely to do.
