Btw, Cohh is a paid spokesperson for SOE. So why would he do anything but defend them?

Bugs are to be expected. I've seen several things posted to different sites stating that they wouldn't do exactly what they are doing.
Scam. Bait and switch. Whatever you call it. They lied. Now they're giving full refunds. Why would they do that unless they were definitely in the wrong?

Its not like people are making shit up. It was said time and time again there would be no in game advantages with money. Airdropping weapons, backpacks, gear, and food in was revealed the day of launch. Whether they fall in a crate, or not, really has no bearing on whether you are getting in game advantages for cash.

The backlash has been so big the SOE is offering full refunds no questions asked.
There was a huge misscommunication. I aalways understood that the air drops might have a weapon and there would be a small chance. That was always my understanding. I know there wouldnt be any open up cash shop and im going to buy me a shotgun and its going to appear in my inventory. Even with a crate drops that should have a low low percentage for it, you might not even get the damn weapon anyways, it might be Randomguy01 that gets it.

Sony should have been more clear on that, but then again i thought it was pretty clear myself. Either way, its going to be fixed. So, they will probably take out weapons all together.

Really? People knew there would be guns/ammo/other advantages in air drops? In the Jan 12 dev stream they said there would NOT be ammo or guns in air drops, or purchasable, period.

As far as them being airdropped in and not going in your bag, its akin to games in which you purchase 'mystery boxes' and the like for chances at items. SO you spend money to get the item, but there is only a chance, rather than a guaranteed advantage. Games that do this are the WORST offenders in p2w terms, since they both don't guarantee the player who payed will get the items, and in the same breath guarantee that paid advantages WILL be given. Typically games that employee this system dwindle to small numbers of die hards who keep pumping in money for a chance at paying to win. There are a hundred piss poor, money grubbing p2w games that operate in this manner. Great profit, bad karma.

Good post. From Smed/reddit, in case anyone missed it:

1) You cannot call in airdrops until the servers are 1/4 full.
2) You can't call in airdrops without generating a ton of zombie heat.
3) the airdrops are random in what they deliver.
4) you are not guaranteed to get a single thing out of the airdrop you called in. You could die trying and you're out the money.
5) We fly the plane in very slowly and loudly.. we also stream green smoke from it you can see from very far away.

This is all I'm going to say on the subject. We've been straight about it. We've called attention to it publicly and it's something we've decided we want in the game. It makes it more fun. It can shake things up. Please don't judge based on knee jerk reactions. Try it. Or watch more streams with people doing it.

Now with all that being said - we're going to be making some big changes to them in the next day or so.

1) Dramatically widening the radius they come in - it's too small from what we're observing.
2) Making sure the chance for guns is a much lower chance so they are much more rare.
3) Upping the minimum number of people on a server to even allow air drops. It's set at 50 right now and we're going to at least double it. We are serious about these being server events and contested.
4) Making the plane fly even slower.

and you do not have to spend money on it. i know i wont, but if i see them dropping im going to get close to see if i can gank it!

Im still not see'ing a problem with it. I dont see how people are not ok with this, but they are ok with Dayz and people being able to purchase a server and set it to where it resets as they feel in order to loot up then head to a server fully geared to snipe people. Yet, this is terrible? There are servers people buy that are specifically set up to gear up. i dont hear any outrage on that. Maybe there is, i just didnt care enough to give a shit about the game. So maybe im wrong.

Actually DayZ loot no longer works in that way (spawn at server up), and hasn't since august or so. That was a placeholder, not a game feature like the air drops are. Not to mention the total amount of loot in any server, and the server hive as a whole is controlled by BI. And the great thing is, you can choose NOT to play in any servers with custom rules (RP only, no KOS etc, 1st person only etc) In h1z1, there is no opting out of some dude buying guns. To boot, its also illegal in the BI terms of service to farm loot via server reset etc, as well as a whole bunch of other rules (no locked servers, no kicking all people so you can get all the loot etc) that will get you shut down, banned, and barred from running a server. The DayZ community policed itself, so anyone breaking the rules was swiftly dealt with, which is why you didnt see any problems with that.

Not to mention, its really more of an ethical thing where they over and over and over hammered that you would not be able to buy guns etc, since that was a major concern in a f2p game like this. OVER and OVER it was said, up until hour of launch. So people feel a bit salty.

h1z1 has ruined its reputation in one day, not to mention the fact that game itself is just a carbon copy of WarZ. Its not really even on the same level as DayZ except for being survival horror.

DayZ = simulation
h1z1 = arcade

And thats fine, but when you hype your game up, say things, and then turn around and completely abandon your so lauded principals for cash, things are going to get ugly in your community base.

I mean, at least they are offering refunds, even if it was only because of all the heat. So they've got that going for them.

Thats an exploit, not a design mechanic where you pay extra money to do that. So not really the same thing.

Im talking about the gameplay. Dayz is built on an engine that militaries all over the world use as a training simulator. It simulats wind effects/weather, full bullet simulation, etc etc.

h1z1 plays just like warz, quick twitch FPS deathmatch play.

Thats fine but they aren't the same thing.

Besides that, dayz isnt perfect, and people bitch about dayz shortfalls too, but h1z1 is just a massive thing that is the very top news in gaming today.
