*.* NEW- 2014 General Fitness Thread *.*

I guess we filled up the old one... http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=280149

Welcome to 2014! Now get your ass in top physical condition!

No one else started it so here it is!

**From the 2013 Thread**

If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs

If you have questions about the SS programs, look here:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ

Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started.

Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE:

http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm

If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point.

I've done rotator cuff exercises before all upper body work for years now. I'm still doing them currently.

It's been two months with pain. It's been better but definitely flares up if I try any bench pressing. That's why I'm thinking of cutting it out.

If you have the $ to spare you could pick up a Slingshot or a bench Shirt. Both will help keep your shoulder girdle in proper alignment. I use a slingshot when I go heavy and it has made a big difference in how much irritation/pain I leave the gym with.

I've used a slingshot for years. Haven't tried it yet because anything over 135 raw causes irritation. Maybe I'll try that though until raw benching no longer has pain.

Use dumbells and play with hand position so it doesn't hurt. If you can nuetral grip press without pain, it's impingement related. Nuetral grip DB bench and pick up a swiss bar. That saved me during separation rehab. swiss bar is actually really good for rowing too. Also squatting is going to irritate it too I bet. Sounds like a good time to justify a safety/yoke bar. =)

edit: here are the bars im talking about. Just got that cable crossover off craigslist cheap too.

All DB benching hurts, even neutral grip, although less that normal grip. I think it's a supraspinatus injury of some kind. Maybe minor tear. Again, that's a self diagnosis.

No problems on squats or Deads. I belong to a gym and no Swiss bar there unfortunately.

Found a silver lining today. I have an HRA with $900 on it. Planning to switch to HSA this fall and money doesn't transfer. Thinking of using if for MRI and I likely won't have anything out of pocket. Might as well use money anyway.

I went through a good year or more with a painful shoulder. Nothing torn or anything, then it just inexplicably went away.

Red Velvet is pretty good. I bought that first. The wife likes it as well.

I'm interested in trying both the pumpkin pie or cinnagram ones.
