NFL owners just passed a targeting rule. I’m told they have not yet defined it for ejections, and the league will work on that and present it at the May meeting. Plays will potentially be reviewable by New York.

The best thing the NFL could do (they won't and probably cant for legal purposes) is to come out and say "it's a dangerous game and there's going to be injuries, if you play you have to deal with it".

Again, this is not a player safety thing for me. I know the game is dangerous. This is about quality of play. Too many games are influenced not by which team is better but which team was lucky enough to avoid injury. With guys leaving games for concussion protocol, it's gotten worse.

Meanwhile serial headhunters like Mike Mitchell knock players out, but get to stay in the game. That ain't right. What's to stop a team from sending your worst players into the game and bounty hunt a qb. A 15 yard penalty? I'll take that every day of the week.

A few years ago more than half of the teams were starting backup qbs. Good football is played with the best players on the field. And the current rules have not stopped Burfict, Mike Mitchell, etc... From being serial headhunters.

So first playoff game, you would be ok with Mike Mitchell in the first quarter going after kelces head play after play? That's football? You're basically rewarding the behavior. I don't want over the top rules like college fb. But if you knock out a player from clear head hunting, that player should leave the game until the offensive player returns.

Bounty hunting is terrible for football. Terrible for the fans. And our current system rewards it.

Targeting in CFB is probably the worst rule in sports, so hopefully Breer is right that there are significant differences. It probably needs to be closer to Flagrant 1 and 2 fouls in the NBA, because the CBB versions of those are also horrific.

CFB targeting rule does come to mind and I absolutely hate it. So much that I even hate it used on the team Im not rooting for.

them arent the injuries they are worried about, its the long term injuries to the brain that they are worried about. Yes, its a game, yes they k now what they signed up for, but some of them dudes are in really bad ****ing shape. Alot of these dudes dont have 10 year careers where they make 12 million plus a year. Alot of these dudes dont get sucked dry from their injuries after football.
