Original KC Masterpiece!

KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce was the first sauce to win the American Royal BBQ contest. Dr. Rich Davis sold his sauce to the Clorox Corp, the same people who make Kingsford Charcoal. They cheapened up the original recipe, and now it taste NOTHING like the original stuff. Shame really.

I found this in my local grocery tonight. It's kind of like retro Pepsi. This is a special 35 Year Anniversary bottle with the ORIGINAL recipe. They should make it like this all the time anyway. I don't mind paying $3 or $4 for a bottle of good stuff. The Clorox version is usually like $2 a bottle, because it's been dumbed down with lesser ingredients.

The original stuff was pretty good, I'm looking forward to trying this to see if it tastes like I remember in the old days.

Probably. It's one of those grocery store cheap brands. I don't use much of it. I like it for dipping chicken strips. It's pretty sweet, so I'll bet its loaded with HFCS.

SBR just has sweetness with a little heat kinda how I remembered Masterpiece to be. Now Masterpiece is just sweet with a hint of liquid smoke.

I've always found SBR to be super sweet. Not to say I don't like it. Like George said, it has its uses. If I'm cooking in the kitchen, I've got no problem using it, or using it for dipping. However, if I'm going through the trouble of smoking some real barbecue, I'm not using a fake sauce. I'll make my own or use some from KC.

I'm in Louisiana which sucks, because even "authentic sauces" down here are made with high fructose corn syrup. I've been forced to learn how to make my own.

I'm firing up the smoker this weekend. Ribs, Brats, Lamb, Pork butt, Pork Loin, Chicken. I'm debating on whether to even buy some SBR to allow the attendees to put that crap on my smoked meats. Usually get some good Jack Stack sauce shipped in but its too late for that. I'm thinking to let the meat stand alone rather than allow that high frutose crap to ruin the taste.

One of the bad things about Rosedale's sauce is it has to remain refrigerated, so you can't really ship it anywhere. It's considered a perishable food.

Yes they are. I usually go with webers grilling sauce; it's made with molasses.

Still buy Heyward's sauce in the grocery here in KC. Not too many people went there, but it was right down the street so we went once a month growing up.

Drove back by and found it's still in business somehow 30 years later.

All Kansas City style sauce is sweet compared to Texas or Carolina style (whether clear, red, or mustard).
