Getting Photos off iPhone?

So, in the old days, you used to be able to plug the phone into the USB on the computer and it would pop up like a flash drive on the PC.

I currently have Windows 10 and iPhone 7. When I plug in the phone to the USB cord I get a popup on the phone asking to trust the device. After pushing trust it doesn't pop up as external storage in file explorer.

Is this a new thing or am I ****ing something up?

I need to get the pictures off. It's being kind of an asshole and before it catches on fire, I need to get the shit off.

EDIT: I did google it. I ****ing hate iTunes and don't want to use it if I can avoid it. I also tried to import them from the Photos app on W10 and it says there isn't a device to connect to.

If you have Amazon Prime, download their photo app and cloud them there. I took 24g of images off my phone that way. Works like a charm with iPhone.

Isn't everything on Apple saved to the cloud?

Hate dealing with the family's Iphones.

The only way to download from icloud is one at a time. There's no "download all" button. Its alright if you want a specific picture but not if you want hundreds/thousands.

Now do this to neuter iTunes as much as possible:

Hit Ctrl+Alt+Del
Select Task Manager
Switch to the Startup tab
Locate both Apple Inc. startup items and disable them
