Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

2007 Eli Manning threw for 23 TD passes. Alex Smith has never come close to that.

2007 Eli Manning was supported by the 17th ranked defense. Alex Smith needs the #1 defense to do anything, ever, in his career.

2007 Eli Manning also led an offense that was at least above average (12th) in third down conversions. Alex Smith is death on third down.

Are we done here?

The sad thing about this is that Marcellus was one of my allies during the Cassel Jihad.

He has learned nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Hali's contract actually drops to 7 mill next year and less after that. I doubt he gets cut just because it's very team friendly.

Remember that one time when Alex Smith scored 4 TD's in a playoff game to beat the Saints while his defense got raped?

Me too.

Up to this point, Alex Smith's best years have come when he's been in a similar situation as Cassels 2010. He's never been in a pass first offense, thats been successful.

Apparently, Andy Reid believes he can be successful in one, which is good enough for me.

Keep pissing and moaning its all you are good for.
No, dumbass.

I'm trying to clearly (as I can) illustrate that if you want to win in this league, you identify the best quarterback you can when you have a need (and arguably keep doing this even when you don't have a need) and you take him. During the process of selecting this player, you try to identify key weaknesses in their overall game so that if you do select him, you can focus your coaching on these points and try to eliminate them while also enhancing the strengths of the player using the other knowledge you've gained through this process to build an offense that puts your player in a position to succeed.

Now, they have obvious identified Alex Smith as the guy they feel will be best for this team to win bug games with and I hope they're right.

I truly do because I am dedicated to this team and it's been YEARS since I could say I actually liked watching Chiefs games.

This move was Dorsey and Reid identifying Alex Smith as the guy thts better than anyone from college would have been and they may very well be right, but conventional wisdom and the way winning teams are build suggests they are wrong.

Time will tell

Fine!

Here's how it went down:

1.1 - Tyler Bray
2.33 - Eric Fisher
3.65 - Nico Johnson
3.96 - Travis Kelce
4.98 - Traded for Alex Smith
5.134 - Knile Davis
6.170 - Eric Kush
6.204 - Sanders Commings
7.207 - Mike Catapano

Braden Wilson UFA

Happy?

Good.

Yeah, Cassels 2010 season was better than any season of Alex Smiths.

I should start calling him Alex Myth

This.

Additionally, I can't blame any defense for giving up points/yards against NO.
