rabblerouser : I also think that the Chiefs can still win with Alex Smith

But not with Andy Reid.

There's no reason to rush it but there is a critical urgency to find a clear QBOTF. Not just giving a young QB a shot... finding a guy we believe can start for us for 10 years.
over the past few days I've realized that Alex Smith isn't the problem. it's Andy Reid. I think the Chiefs can definitely win with Alex Smith, win a Super Bowl even.

We'd need a coach like a Gruden/Payton/Harbaugh/Carroll/Garrett/McCarthy type to get the most of Smith and our talented but underachieving offense.

Please name me all the somewhat recent teams that won with a great defense and an average QB. '85 Bears, '15 Broncos, '00 Ravens... it's the exception, not the rule. Usually a team needs a good defense and a good QB.

All of those things were bad. Does not mean Alex Smith was good.

His 1-3 playoff record here says otherwise.

Dumb.

The object of the game is to outscore your opponent do you not know this?

You need points to outscore your opponents that's not something Alex Smith is providing without defense or special teams to account for our offensive shortcomings.

It's not all Alex Smith fault no but he is a big fault to the problem.
You need receivers to not rank the 2nd worst in the league in dropped passes. You need a coach to call the right plays. You need a defense to force more than one punt. You need discipline on the O-line to do their assignments.

Kool-aid, stop drinking it.

Defense wins championships. The coaching staff, the lineman, the receivers, the run defense all failed way harder than our QB did that game. Alex Smith is a solid game managing QB who can take us all the way. Players getting paid up the wazoo (Houston, Maclin, Charles, Tamba) and aren't giving us jack ****.
Defense wins championships yet we have HoF QBs only representing the AFC in the SB for a long time now. Football cliches spewed by the star-struck media aside it is timely plays that win games. QBs have the best chance of making those plays. You can point to lack of run D, dropped passes, etc but Smith hasn't produced enough as a passer in 4 years to show he can score against teams with serious SB aspirations. Yea you can point to a game or two here and there but the big picture is that we are a below average offense for the supposed HC genius we have, continuity in system, resume of skill players and what we are paying them.

The easiest way to be an annual contender is to field a QB who can make plays in every game and most of us here are confident that there are options better than Smith.

I didn't realize during the game that Kelce and Maclin were completely wide open. So ****ing wide open I could have thrown that shit and got a first down. Trade Smith and take our chances with Foles. Then harvest a drafted QB. He can't be any worse than this over rated QBshit. At least he takes chances and throws deep. And all you Smith cock coddlers, this is just one of many examples that shows he is a very mediocre QB holding down a highly potential offense. Sure the line could help but quick thinking is not Smith's forte.

Team finishes 12-4. The low intelligence folk want to make moves that put this team at 4-12. Classic.

I've aready said that having a good defense is necessary. Unlike you, who are arguing that all a team needs is an elite defense and any old jag at QB will work.

Unless you are the 85 Bears you aren't winning a SB with Smith as your QB. Sorry.

Even last year it was Peyton's corpse that saved the day against San Diego by making timely plays. No elite D can save a team in today's NFL if the offense can't do its part. It doesn't have to be always 5K yards and 30 TDs, just plays that matter.

Please, with all due respect, provide a link. I can't find anything that shows the Chiefs having the 2nd overall dropped passes. When looking at the WRs receptions, or TE receptions, or OL receptions. Or all three combined. Please, if I am wrong, I will stop drinking the Kool-Hate of Smith. In the meantime, stop drinking the Cum-aid of this over rated time to move on because he is holding down our offense, QB!

Start with the three Cleveland Browns teams that got to the AFC Championship game with Bernie Kosar.

Smartest guy and worst athlete on the field.

Sort of like Manning last year.
