Star Wars: I FULLY Geeked Out Today

As most of you know, I've lived and worked in Hollywood since 1993. I've met an endless list of A List directors and actors. Most were really cool and I've become friends with more than a few. I've always treated these people with respect and I've never "Geeked Out" over meeting anyone, from Spielberg to EVH.

Well my friends, today was different.

I headed up to ride my bike at Lake Hollywood at 4:15 this afternoon, my normal time. I do 10 miles and have to leave at 5pm at this time of the year, because that's closing time. Next month it's 6pm, which gives me a little more time in case I'm running late with work. I ride from Gate-to-Gate and bypass the .7 mile portion in which it's on the street. People speed way too much and it's super wind-y, so I don't fee like riding defensively after a full day of work.

Anywho, I'm heading down the path of my first 1.7 miles and a I pass a couple. The guy is wearing a shoddy hoodie sweatshirt and the girl is speaking the King's English. The dude is also carrying a beer, which is prohibited by law at Lake Hollywood.

I think to myself, nah...

I come back around and pass them again, this time from behind, and I hear his voice after taking a swig of his beer. I think to myself, "Nah, no way. Too chubby".

The third time I pass them, I know it, so I stop:

Me: Oh my god! Rogue One is the GREATEST STAR WARS MOVIE EVAR!!!! I bought the BluRay, Digital On Demand, saw it in the theater 4 times and have watched it at least 50 times! Holy crap!

His girl:

Gareth: Thanks, Mate! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah blah (I couldn't even think).

Me: Holy shit, Dude, you need to do more Star Wars! I love your work, Man!!

Gareth:
Spoiler!

Me: Dude, I LOVE YOUR STAR WARS MOVIE!!!!!!11111

Dane out.

Cool story

But they have 2 trilogies lined up plus a Gareth Edwards project? I’ve heard a live action series rumor for Disney streaming. That’s a lot of Star Wars.

And at least one new animated series for the streaming service.

Agreed: It's a lot of Star Wars.

Maybe too much.

I'm in a new dawn of Star Wars fandom. It absolutely isn't too much for me. But I totally get why it may be for others.

I loved the OT, tolerated the prequels, loved the Clone Wars series and the last three seasons of Rebels (didn't love Season 1 of Rebels).

Rogue One was phenomenal and everyone knows my thoughts on the latest trilogy.

I just don't know how interested I'll be in trilogies set outside of the Skywalker Saga/Era with brand new characters.

I totally get that. Makes sense to me. And I fear there are more folks out there on your side of the fence. But I'm all for it. Bring it on, I say.

No, because he has no involvement in that film.

It was a brief, maybe a 3 minute conversation. He was on a walk with a lady friend and I didn't really want to interrupt but as I stated, I totally geeked out for the first time in more than 25 years living and working in Hollywood.

Fortunately, he was very nice and very accommodating. It wasn't like it was a social setting where we were at the same party or event, it was a random chance meeting.

My kids to to school with the children of many, many famous working actors and directors, I have A list neighbors that I'm friends with, Oscar winning producers and so on. One of my kids friends has directed dozens of Brooklyn 99, New Girl and The Good Place episodes. Meeting working people is Old Hat but this was different.

This was Star Wars Rogue One, man!
