No Charges in Wal-Mart BB Gun Shooting

Watch the video. Dude's just shopping for pet food, swinging a BB gun, and minding his own business. Then, BAM.

Apparently the Dayton PD trains their officers to murder people.

http://www.whio.com/videos/news/walm...ptures/vCtB6Z/

Quote:
A special grand jury called to review evidence in the fatal shooting of John Crawford III, killed by police in an Ohio Walmart while carrying a BB gun from store's shelves, decided today that no officers involved in the shooting will be indicted.

Surveillance video from Crawford's shooting—previously unavailable to the public—shows Crawford walking around the store while talking on the phone, with the BB gun at his side or on his shoulder. The disturbing video then shows an officer rushing toward Crawford with his gun drawn before shooting him.

Though the special grand jury reportedly considered charging the officers with murder, reckless homicide, or negligent homicide, WHIO reports the jury ultimately decided not to indict the officers involved in the shooting, finding their actions were justified.

Vince Pope, attorney for the officers involved in the shooting, released a statement following the decision:

"I believe the grand jury's decision, it's absolutely the right decision, that the officers acted well within their training."

Derrick Foward, president of the Dayton Unit NAACP, also released a statement:

"The Special Grand Jury in Greene County made the wrong decision. It's a sad day in the history of Dayton."

Foward added the NAACP will call for a complete investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice.

This has to stop. How many more innocents have to die or get shot?

We have a right to move around freely without harassment. To not be shot following the direction of the officer if you are asked. Police told him to get his license, he gets it and the cops panic sets in.

Cops have a right to protect themselfs.

But not kill someone who is no threat. that said, thats as bad of shooting as I've seen in a while. No justification.

What about the adults wandering around with real AR-15's? We should call the cops on them and see if there is a shoot out?

Did you miss my earlier post? I stated those guys that walk into establishments with their AR's making some kind of statement are idiots. Because they can legally do something, doesn't necessarily mean it's a good idea. It makes non reeruned gun owners look bad.

What the - ? That's beyond ridiculous.

If the car was reported stolen or something, then maybe I could see approaching the guy with caution, but either way he clearly wasn't acting or moving in a suspicious manner.

Adults know how to follow the letter of the law whereas kids don't, but to me we're still not at the point as a culture where I feel comfortable carrying non-concealed.

Too many people lose their minds and their bowels when they so much as see a gun, and I don't want to be getting beaten up or worse by a swat team...

So you are so afraid of police you are afraid to do something that is perfectly legal?

That pretty much sums up the problem right there.

Yeah I agree, I won't go walking down main street dawning one of my AR's out in front of me either just because it's legal. It's a good way to draw unwanted attention.

In an ideal world, sure, they wouldn't make them like that, and this kids parents would not have let him have it or carry it around. But's its not an ideal world, the cops know its not an ideal world, and the cops know these things are out there.

So when they encounter an unusual situation for a mass shooter or robber, such as a kid walking down the street, or a guy examining merchandise in Walmart, they ought to think twice before opening fire.

High powered rifle? It does not look like a high powered rifle. Looks like a customizable rifle. Is it because it is scary looking. All bball guns look like real gun counterparts. What should they look like?

If you view these all as isolated incidents, you could make a case, however it is stretched that the officer acted according to the police procedure.

The thing is that the majority of these shootings are of black people by white officers. Not every case obviously but we can't deny that there is a racial element to all thse shootings.

Add in some ancillary evidence that white people are carrying AR-15's into stores without any injuries to themselves or bystanders, you have to question that the racial profiling angle is more in play than we want to admit.
