Doctor Who

Been meaning to start a thread on this for years and never have for some reason. Big fan of both the original (what I've seen/remember of it...) and the rebooted series.

New doctor:

Every companion has been like that, nothing new or interesting on Clara's take on it. I was excited for the show to finally turn the page and introduce a newer more interesting companion with a new story to add to the mythos but nope... another year of Clara when they've already explored virtually everything that character can offer and back.

Oh absolutely, it's always been a family-centric show. With the new Doctor they are attempting to make it a bit more "dark" and a bit more "mature" but it's still layered in that kids won't really pick up the more adult/complex issues and will enjoy the quirky Doctor stuff and the monsters. You can be assured that the show will never cross the line into horror

Apparently Moffat has already confirmed that she's going to be on for the "entire" next season. Welp. Still waiting for him to finally let Grant Morrison write an episode too.

Hard for me to answer that, having no kids of my own to gauge by, but I think it would be fine.

Pretty much exactly how I feel. I thought she was great, up until the introduction of Mr. Pink. Now that he's gone, I'm hoping we get more of her pre-Pink character.

At the same time, someone mentioned earlier that Capaldi is the right age for a River Song hook-up. I would love to see a season based on their get-together and eventual split/meet.

Agree with this. At the same time, there are so many back seasons you could always start on older seasons first and take your time getting to the last couple of seasons. I think it started to get a bit darker as the last Doctor was being phased out. The "Name/Day/Time of the Doctor" trilogy that says goodbye to the eleventh Doctor and hello to the twelfth was much darker/mature than any others from the rebooted series. At least from what I remember. As a childhood fan, seeing Tom Baker was awesome. I'll remember these episodes longer than any other from the reboot so far.

I would highly recommend introducing the earlier Doctors before the reboot. The FX obviously suck, but the stories were still a lot of fun. I think 7 or 8 is perfect for these, as the FX usually aren't as important for kids anyway. The somewhat hammy acting won't be eye-rolling either! Netflix has a bunch (not all) of episodes from the original series run. Worth checking out.

The Eccelston episodes are pretty dark but not in ways that young kids will pick up on. The realization that the Doctor is suffering from PTSD/Survivors Guilt takes a more mature mind to notice.

Missy had moments where I thought, "hell yeah, evil is back." Unfortunately just moments. Really underwhelmed by her previous story line. Here's to hoping they fix that.

Yeah. I was really disappointed when he left.

that's because 99% of the entire season was focused on Clara's boring ass.. Moffat is so dead set on making her "the ultimate" companion.. honestly I'm pretty sick of Moffat at this point and hope he leaves soon. He was much better when he was focused on writing one offs or two parters during the Russel T Davies era. I feel like Capaldi is being held back because of this conceit as well. Unfortunately Moffat is so full of himself he probably won't let go. Let's not forget his stubborn attitude is also the reason why Eccleston wasn't in the 50th anniversary
