Chiefs star running back Jamaal Charles won't be showing up Thursday for training camp in St. Joseph until Kansas City ponies up more money, KCTV5 has learned exclusively.

Charles is the Chiefs top offensive star, but 10 other running backs have a higher base salary.

And he wants more money and is prepared to hold out as long as it takes, a source tells KCTV5. Charles in the middle of a six-year, nearly $28 million contract.

He makes about $9 million per season less than Minnesota's Adrian Peterson who has a 7-year, $96 million deal. Detroit's Reggie Bush and Baltimore's Ray Rice also make more than Charles.

The Chiefs won 9 of their first 12 games and made the playoffs. Charles touched the ball 85 on 85 percent of the offensive snaps

The Chiefs did not have an immediate comment.

what a joke. I thought players would catch on eventually once you get your big contract teams can only hold on to you for another year or two when you play at an expendable position.

But it would be a huge mistake long term.

He's looking for one last payday because he knows when his contract is up in 2016, the money disappears. No one - at least no one should - pay RBs long term into their 30's.

Pioli really dicked over Charles' agent when that contract extension was drawn up.

I'm fine with Charles wanting more money, but I sure hope he came to Dorsey about this sooner than a couple days ago. I hope it was an offseason thing and we're just hearing about it now.
