First time I tried it was in this nice Italian mama/papa restaurant in Queens, I asked for something that would go well with my cannelloni and something that was also not too high priced. First time I ever had wine at a restaurant and it was great.

Just gave an old Scotch Drinker a bottle of that on Sunday. It was his 90th birthday. He is pretty much a "bar scotch" kinda guy. He was thrilled Told me he needed to go out and stash it in his pick-up before it got put on the table for all to drink. Made me feel good.

Do you try to describe the wine? My girlfriend and I do that sometimes when we are feeling really classy. That $26 stuff I mentioned, her comment: "Tastes sweaty. Yeah, like sweat."



It was a really good description.

I'm working on my palate. It's pretty weak as of now.

I'd have to try it. I know back in the day, I'd drink oatmeal stouts and such in 15 minutes or so. I just have the wrong attitude when it comes to beer. I realize this, but it's ingrained after 18 years of drinking the stuff. Beer is for quaffing. Wine is for drinking. Whiskey is for sipping. When I have a beer, my attitude is to drink that shit.

Well, shit, I'd drink an oatmeal stout quickly too. Some beer styles are made for brisk drinking. Some decidedly aren't.

Haha. I don't usually talk about the way it "tastes" unless a taste is overwhelming (tobacco, cherry, oak). I usually am more interested in talking about the entry/body/finish as well as the mouth feel. I like wines with a lot of body that linger on the palate. That's why I don't like most pinot noirs. I find that they have a good entry, but that they're too light on the palate and don't stick around. That's why I term the wines I like "whiskey reds." I'm a whiskey drinker. I like wines that provide a similar experience to sipping good whiskey, so I tend toward heavier wines.

I'm not sure how I'd classify Beringer's Cabernet, as being heavier or lighter, just because I haven't had much outside of it. But I'll keep that thought in mind.

I have also watched John Cleese's Wine for the Confused on netflix in order to get more into enjoying wine; that was interesting and helpful, but it's strictly for beginners.
