If you're planning to play games or watch netflix or something, don't bother.
The latency will be so high that it'll be worthless. |

I had it for seven years before DSL finally came out my way. The lag and down time was horrible.

Wonder if it takes 2 months to get installed how long is it going to take to get fixed when something goes wrong?
Never had satellite internet but everyone I have talked to freaking HATES it! Very slow....I would move again!

This is a new development in an established community. Houses around me are from the 60's.
Apparently someone did not run the cable/phone through the development. Which means nothing is there and it will take time to connect to the outside world. Someone, somewhere dropped the ball. Comcast has a wire up to the house-but not live yet. Centurylink has nothing. They will get harassed weekly.

It's better than nothing. Living in the country our dsl speed was in the slowest 5% of the nation. Satellite beats that by quite a bit but if you're used to hi-speed then you'll be disappointed. Caps are a real pain as well. I pay about $60 a month but have a 10 gig cap. They have another for about $90/month that's about 15 gig or you can buy additional cap space at $10/gig. We're on restriction about 10 days a month because I'm a cheap bastard. They also have a line of sight wireless out here that's a much better deal but you have to have l-o-s to one of their towers. Have had minimal problems with weather outages from really heavy rain/cloud cover but with a wet heavy snow you may have to clear the dish off.

Pass on satellite. I'd see if one of the neighbors will let you leech off their wifi for a few bucks for the time being.

Worst ever. Had it for 2 years. When we moved, finding good internet was one of the priorities. The latency is ridiculous. No chance of playing ANY games. The updates alone will eat up all your data. No streaming. Eats up data. Once you hit your data cap, you can either buy more or you go to dial-up speed. Yes, dial-up speed. Even simple things like d/l a book on Kindle eats up a tremendous amount of data. Even when you have data, it's slow and the delay for everything is awful. I thought I would be able to deal with it, but I was wrong. We would not even look at a house that didn't get Centurylink (no Comcast in the mountains). Finally found a place with 40mb.

all good info.
After looking at hotspots today and info here, I have decided to pass on satellite and go with our current situation. I may ask a neighbor, but we are far enough away from people that the wireless is at the end of the range. rep coming
