Wade Davis, Why can't I quit you?

Just watched Davis strike out Bryce Harper for his 23rd save in 23 attempts. The thought of him not being in the Royals bullpen this year cuts me deep. Dreams of HDH. Oh well..."Go Royals". That is all.

Holland didn't just sign some cheapo contract for a hope and a prayer. The Rockies gave him a pretty sweet deal. He won't hit all of his incentives, sure, but he's going to hit quite a few of them. He has a legit shot to make more $$ than Wade in 2017/2018.
It was no choice for Holland. I would have questioned his sanity if he took KC's piddly offer over what Colorado offered him.

That said, it's still conceivable that we could have all three. We just thought he was more of a risk than he turned out to be to offer him anything more. I guess you could argue that Dayton dropped the ball in that instance if you really wanted to be picky about it.

Worst year after 3 years of superhuman stats is still better than most. 23 of 23 saves, 2.43 ERA. Down years? I'll take them.

Holland would only sign with KC if they guaranteed him the closing spot and matched Colorado's deal.

Wasn't gonna happen. We got Minor instead.

2.3 era, 100% on save percentage. And yes, it is a down year. Must be nice.

I still can't believe we want to use Maurer, Butcher and Feliz in a bullpen. All three of them suck ass. Any moment now, Feliz is going to show is true colors.

Maurer was an inspired pickup. His strand rate is atrocious, which isn't is fault and it's why his ERA is so bad, but his K rate is good, he walks half as many batters as either Davis or Holland, and he's gained velocity this year, whereas both Davis and Holland have lost oomph on their fastballs.

Holland is due for a major correction soon, and whoever pays for Davis in FA is going to get burned, because you can't rely on relief pitchers to remain dominant, especially if they walk half a batter per inning.

There was an article today in Chicago about "what's wrong" with Wade Davis. What's interesting is Maddon says he's trying to be too fine and Wade completely disagrees with him. I can't imagine Wade being too happy about that.

I agree with you. I liked that pickup. His fastball is one of the best in the league and his peripherals are good. He hasn't been lights out with the Royals but he has the stuff to be a good pitcher. And he's under team control.
